Sadly I have just been advised by Max Piec, ex direct entry tiffy, that Dereck Hughes had a fatal heart attack yesterday morning at home in Cohuna.
Derek, more commonly known as Dockyard, was one of a kind. I first met him when I was at FMP-W and he was on Duchess in 1973.
Early days so no funeral details as yet.

A sad day for all steam tiffie so,
RIP Dockyard Derek Hughes

Was on DUCHESS with Derek in '75-'76. He'd love to come up to the 4.5" guns when we were firing as he'd worked in the GID Weapons Workshop before joining Pussers as a 90 Day Wonder. Really nice bloke.

RIP
