The following sad news was forwarded on from Peter Maher today.. [-o<

It is with regret that I advise the passing of

R42016 CEA Trevor William RICHARDS Age 67, From cancer

Trevor saw Vietnam service on MELBOURNE 1966 to 68.

I am a retired CPOMTH and was a good mate of ex greenie Trevor Richards.
He passed away early sunday morning in Brisbane.
Trev and myself were in the first class of RAN apprentices to join in July
1956.
He passed out as an EA from Nirimba in 1960, served a couple of years in
general service and was switched to become a birdie EA and paid off around
1976.
Trev loved his rugby and played for many a ships side.
He was a good bloke, a good greenie and a good larikin.
He will keep the big switchboard in good order.

Tom Shaw (ex CPOMTH)

The passing of Trevor is not only a sad occasion for his loved ones, it is a sad occasion for all of us that passed through Nirimba.

I have always considered the blokes that were in the early intakes, particularly the first, to be absolute legends.

I never had the privilege to met you Trevor, but rest in peace mate, you were a pioneer of a wonderful brotherhood.

Well said Ned.

I never new Trevor either, but I have always admired those pioneers of the MOBI faith.

I joined the RAN with Trevor and with 10 others Queenslanders came down to kick start Nirimba. Both Trevor and I became EAA's.We parted company in 1961 when I was posted to Voyager and Trev was posted to Quiberon. I saw Trev a couple of years later when pussers were converting him to an EA(Air).I'm pleased that I got to see him before he went to the big switchboard and very pleased to have been able to attend his funeral. Condolences to Carol and his family.

I received the following this morning from Corine, daughter of Trevor Richards... :evil3:

--------------------- MESSAGE DETAILS ---------------------

Message: Whilst Dad was in hospital he kept telling me to go check out this site and some apparent photo someone had taken of him in hospital and proceeded to post it. Dad was kidding around and I am not entirely sure as to what I am supposed to be looking for, would you have any idea or a copy as such?

I took too much time and never got around to it so your help would be greatfully appreciated.

Regards

Corine

Also, On behalf of our family a huge thank you to all those that have helped us celebrate the remarkable life by many standards of my Father.

:type: To which I replied...

Hi Corine,

Firstly, please accept my personal condolences for the loss you and your family are feeling with the passing of Trevor...

Whilst our paths crossed in the Fleet, we didn't get to know each other well, however we all feel the sense of loss when
one of our inaugural group of Naval Artificer Apprentices, the 1st MOBI Intake, finally 'passes over the bar'...

I'm not sure who took a photo of your Dad in hospital, but I'll keep an eye on the topic and if someone's having difficulty
posting the photo, I'll offer my assistance...

I'll post your message onto the website in the hope the person with the photo will come forward...

Whilst he's temporarily not on e-mail at the moment, Max Kean, a 1st MOBI Intake Chippy who joined HMAS Nirimba
with your Dad, was moved to tears when I informed him of your father's passing when we met on Saturday at the RAN
Sailing Association in Rushcutters Bay... He obviously had many fond memories of 'Muscles'...

Not a good week all round; this morning we were informed via RAN Skilled Hands Forum/ Website of the passing of
Gloria Swan, wife of 1st MOBI Intake's Brian Swan, the only ex-Naval Apprentice Chippy to make Captain....

Thank you for getting in touch Corine, a sad time for all...
