Slightly :offtopic: I know, seeing as how none of us ever served in the :salute1: US Marine Corps, nor ever heard anybody utter memorable/ quotable lines like,
"I love the smell of napalm in the morning..." or "You can't handle the truth..." but I'm sure each one of us who served, either knew somebody, or can
relate in some small way to 'Gunny' R. Lee Ermey, who passed away a fortnight ago, on the 16th April, aged 74... [-o< I commend these two video clips...

........ :type: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd-TB3i-ps0 ......................... :type: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j3_iPskjxk
:notworthy:

:-k All told, :type: Ermey had roles in some 60-plus films, as well as several voice credits, including "Toy Story", "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy,"
"SpongeBob SquarePants," "The Simpsons," and "Family Guy."

On top of voice acting, he hosted two programs for the History Channel: "Mail Call," :gotmail: in which he provided expertise on military issues, both modern
and historic, and "Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey," :sniper: which focused on the development of different types of weapons.

Farewell, "Gunny", :hi: your larger than life presence will be missed... :obey:

Maybe a bit out of place but I just saw on FB the exWOFC Mal Kirkland has crossed the bar.
Chippies have a bit of affinity with the gunnery branch as we often had to work in cahoots with them
His funeral in next Tuesday in Mt Martha, Victoria.

Smooth seas Mal.

I had a fair bit to do with Alan in the 90's at DNB. He was the reason my eldest son got his posting to the Darwin area, and his subsequent success in his career.

Sadly missed. Fair winds, sunshine, and following seas Alan.

It is with much sadness that I onforward Tony Vine’s email.

Whilst I did not know Bungy all that well when we were both in uniform, I did get to know him quite well while he was with ASC. At that time he lived close by to me in Safety bay and we became quite good friends whilst regularly undertaking morning dog walking duties along the Safety Bay beachfront.

RIP Bungy, I guess the Slops Van is now closed.

Bob
The Submarine community has lost a legend with the passing yesterday of Normie Williams.
Norm joined boats as a teenager, commissioned HMAS Ovens in UK and was an exceptional Chief and Later Warrant Officer, for which he was awarded the OAM. He was also a life member of the Submarine Association of Australia.
Post navy Norm was one of the first members of the Australian Submarine Corporation and worked with ASC until his retirement ensuring that the standards he set as a O Boat Submariner were maintained and improved with the Collins Class.
He was the SAA webmaster for many years until twelve months ago when his cancer progressed to a point where he had to give up.
His fight was long and painful but the little fella is now at rest.
He touched the lives of many and we are all the better for it. God bless you shipmate.

Is this the same Caple that was the first Sailstruc Chief tiff?

Yes, that was one of his achievements.

I served with him at Cerberus and was his DO for a while and managed to keep him in the service during a difficult period. Very capable. Sad to see him go at such a young age.
RIP Alan.

I am trying to see if I can get to his service but it is a bit difficult with my wife at the moment.

I have found in the latest listings of the "Last Post" forum in the NSW RSL Reveille magazine.

Kinkade, Robert Alexander - R47775
. Mech 1. Did 2 x Gun Line Tours in HMAS Perth and 1 x Escort Trip in HMAS Duchess for Vietnam Service.

White, Thomas Bernard - R47381. CERA. Vietnam Service 8 x Trips HMAS Sydney 68-70 and 1 x Trip in HMAS Duchess 65.

Vale Robert & Thomas :salute1:

I spent some time with Tom White at Creswell and Stalwart. A true gentleman and sad to hear of his demise. I had the privilege of hearing Tom, behind closed doors, ripping strips off Andy Douglas (Lt SDME), and forcing Andy to reverse one of his stupid decisions.

Sorry to hear of Tom crossing the bar, fair winds ol' fella.
