Phil"Stinga/Stinray"Reay was the Buffer of Attack/Ardent whilst myself and Mike"Pony"Moore were on there in 77-78 up in Darwin.

From Cheryl Reay:

Cheryl Reay wishes to advise that on 24th July 2014 Phillip (Phil/Stingray) passed away after a short but strong fight with cancer. He was a great husband of 41 years and father to two beaut sons, Kevin and Graeme and Poppy.
He had a full life and loved his time in the RAN and made some good mates who I know will miss him too.
His wish to be privately cremated will be carried out on Friday 1st August so please have a coldie and remember the good times as we will be doing.

Cheers

Connie

Very sorry to hear of Phil's passing, I have fond memories of our time in Attack/Ardent. When I was posted to Attack I went unaccompanied and Phil and Cheryl "adopted" me and made sure that I was well fed and looked after. There were many memorable nights.

Phil and Cheryl also went out of their way to make my wife welcome when we had a change of plans and she came up to Darwin.

On our return down south Phil was also posted to Nirimba as the gunnery jack and lived a block or so from us as and we continued our careers together there, with many more enjoyable times.

A conscientious professional and one of the many great mates that we meet in our service careers, a sad loss indeed, but we have many fond memories.

Vale Stinga. May you have fair winds and following seas, our thoughts are with you, Cheryl and the family.
