It is with extreme sadness that I must advise everyone that our dear friend and classmate, Bob 'Kipper' Dunlop, lost his battle with brain
cancer at 0935 this morning.

I received the following e-mai from our fellow classmate, Greg, 'Shang' Moffit this afternoon... :evil3:

Hi Friends,
It is my sad duty to inform you that Bob passed away peacefully at 9.35 am this morning.
His family were by his side.
Paulette thanks all those who sent words of support and love.
A sad day indeed...
Shang and Marlene....

As you can appreciate, we're all a bit numbed by this sad news, but I'll post again once I've had time to digest his passing...

My deepest and most sincere sympathy goes out to Paulette and the extended family for their loss...

VALE 'Kip' my good friend, rest on your oars, your voyage is done... [-o<

:-k Whilst he wasn't a prolific poster on RAN Skilled Hands, Kipper was responsible for a number of memorable posts, perhaps the
most memorable was his last, which included the a slideshow he'd put together for our 50th Reunion and uploaded to YouTube...

One of the hut seniors in our intake, a great bloke with a wicked sense of humour and taught us a lot. I ran into him a number of times in Perth and he hadn't seemed to change a lot, same old Kipper.

Rest on your oars mate, condolences to Paulette and family.

I thought I'd share some of the tributes that are arriving in my inbox since the sad news of Bob's passing began circulating... :evil3:

"Hi Friends,
It is my sad duty to inform you that Bob passed away peacefully at 9.35 am this morning.
His family were by his side.
Paulette thanks all those who sent words of support and love.
A sad day indeed...

Shang and Marlene and Greg 'Shang' Moffit - 13th MOBI Intake"

--------------------------------------

“It is with much sadness that I advise the passing of Robert (Kipper / Bob) Dunlop at 0935 WST this morning. Robert was suffering
from an aggressive brain tumour which was first diagnosed in November last year the effects of which have meant quite a struggle
for him. May he now rest in peace.

Kipper, the boy from Kwinana, first became interested in the Navy when he joined the Sea Cadets in nearby TS BEDFORD, later
renamed TS ANZAC, and followed on by joining HMAS NIRIMBA as an Apprentice in the July 1962 Intake. Bob did not serve past
his initial engagement on completion of which he forged a successful career with the State Energy Commission (now SYNERGY)
before entering retirement approximately 10 years ago. Robert was also one of the early Associate Members of the Wardroom
Mess at HMAS STIRLING. He and Paulette supported the Mess social functions very well and consequently have become well
known members of the Mess, now combined with the Senior Sailors Mess and called Sir James Stirling Mess. In retirement Bob
and Paulette devoted much time to their family and Bob loved to be with his grandchildren passing on all sorts of life’s experiences
to them.

Our thoughts are with Paulette and the family at this time.

Yours aye

Bob Mummery – 8th MOBI Intake

--------------------------------------

“I am just so choked up with emotion I find it hard to put my feelings into words. Vale Robert, Bob, Kipper,
Dunlop. Our love and condolences to Paulette and Family. As Shang and Marlene have said “A Sad Day Indeed”

Dagmar and Barrie Robinson – 13th MOBI Intake"

--------------------------------------

“Thanks for letting us know guys. Another one of our wonderful term mates has crossed the bar, we will
miss Bob terribly.

Please convey Ellen's and my condolences to Paulette.

Rest in peace old buddy.

Ellen and John Kelly - 13th MOBI Intake"

--------------------------------------

"Where is the good in goodbye??

A truly great gentleman, a friend, a pal,

Our thoughts and love are with you Paulette and family.

Lorraine and Terry Gunton – 13th MOBI Intake"

"Another blank file in our ranks.
Shang would you please pass on our condolences to Paulette and family.
It is indeed another sad day.
Our Love and thoughts go out to all who have lost a husband, a father, and a mate.
Wendy and Ian (Demo) D’Emden – 13th MOBI Intake
Another brother gone far too early, our deepest condolences to Paulette and family.
Fair winds and a following sea, Kip, forever in our thoughts.

Marg and Geordie Moult – 13th MOBI Intake"

--------------------------------------

"I have been known to speak well publicly, but when my friends move on I don’t know what to say.
My memory goes back to NIRIMBA when we were all 15 year olds with the mysteries of naval life
ahead of us. I am so happy that we have all remained such good friends, even after minor differences.
THAT IS WHAT MAKES A FRIENDSHIP. Rest in peace my friend Kipper, and rest assured that your wife
and family will be loved by a mob of MOBI's.

Lynn and Doug Bluhdorn – 13th MOBI Intake"

--------------------------------------

"Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you Paulette, and the family. God bless dear girl for being a wonderful wife,
mother and especially a beautiful person.

Lorraine and Ron Ginbey - 13th MOBI Intake"

--------------------------------------

"Hi Greg and Marlene.

Please pass on our condolences to Paulette and the family. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
Difficult as it is, and has been, Bob is now in a better place and has just gone on ahead awhile....

Thanks for keeping us all posted during this trying time.

Best regards,

Div and Alex Williams - 13th MOBI Intake"

--------------------------------------

"Hello everyone, Shang please convey our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers to Paulette and Family. R.I.P. Kip.

Love,

Brigid and Tim Baker - 13th MOBI Intake"

--------------------------------------

"So sad that Bob has passed away. We are sure that he fought the good fight against the insidious disease that has taken him from his family and friends.

I was drawn to my earlier memories of Bob as we were young Mobis travelling from the West to join Nirimba. I was fortunate to also serve with Bob in Parramatta.

His laughter, compassion for others and his wit are treasured memories. He will be sorely missed.

To Paulette and his family we send our deepest condolences.

Kindest Regards

Dianne and Richard Lee - 13th MOBI Intake"

--------------------------------------

"So sorry to hear the sad news.
. Our thoughts, love and best wishes to Paulette and family. We well remember a lovely lunch and catch up we had in Broome some time ago in better times.

Fond regards,

Sue and Graeme Tomasetti - 13th MOBI Intake."

--------------------------------------

I sent the following SMS to Paulette's mobile phone earlier this evening...

"Dear Paulette, so sorry to learn of Bob's passing, he was much loved by all of us. Please accept my sincere sympathy,
I wish there was something I could say, or do to ease your pain. Kip has been the subject of two topics on our website,
which may be of comfort to you... viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2335 and when we learned just how ill he was...
viewtopic.php?p=130336#p130336 We're all thinking of you.. Losts of love,

Rick Pengilly - 13th MOBI Intake"

Our (13th MOBI Intake) resident poet, Greg 'Shang' Moffit, :catapult:
has penned this ode to our much loved departed shipmate...

Bob Dunlop...See ya Cobber

How can true thoughts come when sad rain falls on me?
For a friend of over 50 years has at last been set free
Free from a terrible chains that had shackled his brain
And left loved ones behind who are racked with great pain.

The world for me now is a sadder place to be
For your humour and good will have been stripped from me
No more will we laugh and enjoy that crazy cheer
No more will you pour me that sour wine or flat beer.

A true friend is not measured by how much they are worth
But by the real things- the comradeship, love and mirth
For every minute I spent with you over many a year
About thirty seconds of that minute would be laughter and cheer

You’ve left my world a bit poorer now you’ve gone old mate
I called you many things but never “The Late”
We will all take that trip ‘over yonder’ that you have now travelled
But it was distressing to see how your life just unravelled.

Towards the end I wished I could take some of your pain
But Jack Dancer had you mate on that speeding Death train
When I sit and ask myself why life’s not always fair
I find comfort in the thought of the fun we would share

I don’t know if we will meet again but if it ever will be
Keep your home brew in the fridge, because the real stuffs on me
You can put the cork back in that vinegar you called wine
But one thing was real mate- you were a real mate of mine.

As your family grieves now and a soft tear down their cheek will fall
As the memories of love and laughter come back to them all
Good bye and fair seas Bob from a grey haired old friend
As long as we have your memories this poem will never end..

..........RIP Bob..........

All our love and sympathy to Paulette and family...
.................Shang Moffitt 28th June 2015

“I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky
All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by
All I ask is a merry yarn and a laughing fellow rover
A quiet sleep and a sweet dream when at last my trick is over”.........

John Masefield... (1902).........
