This is from an e-mail from fellow Jun.'62 13th MOBI Intake Chippy/ CMDR SD(SH) Stan Sheldon RAN Rtd. :evil3:

Hi Guys,

All us Chippies were certainly blessed to have known and served with John Hendry. He certainly was a bit of a legend for his professional
knowledge, hard work and his hard "running". John was a leader within our branch as demonstrated when we were confronted with the
introduction of group pay.

I served with John on SYDNEY and MELBOURNE and was always amazed at his ability to find unique solutions to difficult problems. John
was one person that I trusted when I first joined SYDNEY as I knew that he would give you the right steer. I spent a little time with at
Manus Island. John's ability to get the best from his native labour force again amazed us all for his unique methods and his ability to
communicate with his team.

During my later career, I visited HMAS STIRLING on many occasions. I always knew that when I arrived I always had an invitation to
meet John in the Wardroom after work. He was always happy to see me and shooot the breeze about old times and comrades. We
certainly had some great discussions and always got a good dose of his wisdom and the latest goss about Chippies. He was a genuine
bloke and had a genuine concern for all his mates.

It was great knowing John, a great navy mate and a true MOBI.

aye

Stan
