Received the following today... :evil3:

Subject: MOBI - DAVID (POM) WILLIAM MELLOWSHIP - R42234

Although we were aware that Pom Mellowship was very ill, it is still sad to learn of his passing.

Pom was a July 1958 entry into HMAS NIRIMBA, the 5TH intake to MOBILAND. Well liked and well respected, the Pom would want us to celebrate his life and not be sad.

May he have fair winds and a following sea as he passes from this life.

Yours aye

Bob Mummery

Bob
I have to sadly inform you that Pom passed away last night at 1930. He went peacefully with his family in attendance. His funeral arrangements are :-
Innes Gardens Memorial Park
Philip Charley Drive
Port Macquarie

Can you also put it on the MOBI website please.

Regards
Alan

Webmaster's Footnote: Whilst I can't remember ever coming across David during my 4 years at RANATE, I did have the pleasure of meeting his son,
(when I was working with the ABL Apprenticeship Centres,) who was (is) a senior official in the Vocational and Education Training (VET) sector...

As indicated by CJ, and according to Pom's service records, he must have been the factory Chief during my 1st & 2nd terms.

Although, I cannot specifically recall any dealings with Pom. Mainly ol'timers on my part!

Still sad to hear about the loss of a fello MOBI and Tiffy. Condolences to family and friends.

RIP David :salute1:

Yes Vale Pom.

You have to respect the early guys. We all thought we had it tough...but they were still making things up as they went along. :salute1:

I agree Steve, the early termers at Nirimba had it much tougher then us and I get really sad when one of them passes away. They led the way for all of us guys coming through behind them.

Rest in peace Pom, may you have fair seas old "MOBI"

Pom was one of the nice guys. Came across him several times and also his son in later years after pussers.
Taken way to soon.
RIP Dave and may you have smooth seas and following winds.

I went up to Pom's funeral yesterday. Term mate Phil Hannaford, who came down from Nambucca Heads, suggested we represent our term.

It was a lovely service and it appears, that David had a full and active life. He was a great family man as well as being dedicated to his work, sports and community.

He served his time in Pussers for 12 years, which included Vietnam Service with 3 x trips in Melbourne and 5 x trips in Sydney.
All through the service, all speakers mentioned those typical MOBI traits we hear so often, no nonsense, to the point and can-do attitude.

All through David’s adult life, he would never forget his life at sea.

There was a contingent from the local RSL & Naval Association. The only other MOBI I bumped into at the service, was Murray Baker. He was travelling to Queensland and choose to stop and to also pay his respects.

RIP David :salute1:
