Subject: VALE - NEVILLE STAR R42340 - JULY 1959 NIRIMBA ENTRY

It is with a sad heart that I onforward the following advice;

Corbin Dingle, State President of the South Australian branch of the Naval Association has advised that Neville Star, R42340, Crossed the Bar in the morning of yesterday 2 April. He further detailed that had it not been for Neville’s commitment and dedication, the Naval Association would not have a Sub-Section in the Riverland.

Nev was a term ahead of me at HMAS NIRIMBA and I remember him as a quiet, sincere and well liked member of the MOBI family. Unfortunately our paths were not to cross once he had graduated from NIRIMBA.

Our thoughts, at this time, are with his family and friends.

Yours aye

Bob Mummery

=; Whilst Neville would have been a Senior Apprentice when I joined, I can't recall him, (may have been a Greenie,) nevertheless any MOBI's passing is regrettable... :-k

Dear Bob,

I remember John Calvert; what a nice guy he was.

It is of concern to me that mesothelioma has claimed another of our mates. So many go down with this disease .

I have plural plaque and I guess that many of our type of entry have too.

Every ex-apprentice entry should have a check-up to make sure that they are in the clear.

I grieve for John’s passing.

Kind regards

Brian

Some more sad news I am afraid,

John was a year ahead of me at NIRIMBA, we spent over 2 years together in HMAS SUPPLY and in 1977 / 78 he joined me in HMAS DIAMANTINA as the Chief Tiff. A professional and hardworking man who I am sure will be missed by many.

Yours aye

Dear Colleagues and friends,

I received a sad communication from Christine Calvert of Dongara WA to the effect that John died on the 8 December 2018 from Cancer (Mesothelioma) from Asbestos fibres in the lung. It is with a great deal of sadness I relay this to you especially as we just lost Barrie Fraser a couple of weeks or so ago. I shall be writing to Christine to express our condolences and if you wish to do so I can pass along her address.

I shall leave it as that and I am available on:
