Sadly I must advise of the unexpected passing of another MOBI.

Dear Bob,

Some of your readers may have known and be saddened to hear that Allan Scott died suddenly on 25 Nov at his home in Mandurah WA. I was only informed of this by his daughter a week after his funeral on 6 Dec. Being a sudden death, an autopsy was ordered. His daughter apologised for the late advice due to a family member taking his personal items and contacts list into safe custody. Meaning his daughter did not get them until after the funeral.

Allan was a mere 5 foot tall when he joined the RAN and 6 foot when he left. Pusses must have paid a lot for his uniform changes. Quiet and unassuming, he nevertheless gathered a wide range of friends amongst other apprentices and instructing staff. The ‘bandi’ was excited to know that Allan was an experienced musician and was quickly inducted into the MOBI band, playing cornet.

On a more important matter he was a promising Chippy, along with Wayne Bastin (dec), Jack Bryant, Bernie Morris, Tony Rose, Bob Mundy and myself. Due to some disagreements with those in charge at the time he was asked to leave during 6th, or 7th Term.

Despite this reversal of opportunity, being a country boy, he went on to manage some farming properties in WA, then bricklaying and eventually a forester in WA’s south. For a number of years, the Navy or DoD refused to release his Service Certificate until his local member went to the Minister for Defence.

This delay frustrated Allan’s attempts at tertiary education and purposeful employment for many years. Employers don’t like to see 3 years of unaccountable time. But you cannot keep a good man (MOBI) down. From those humble beginnings he rose to become the Assistant Commissioner for Forestry in WA.

RIP Allan.
