Having a ball, been through Hawai'i, San Francisco and Boston - including the Shrewsbury area with Fred & Anne, and have enjoyed all of it, but with minor annoyances. US hotels have a habit of selling you a booking for a set price then when you check in they nail you with an extra daily fee plus tax for incidentals. Some have been US $35.00 per day. So be aware if you travel there. Dublin is up front with cost, all inclusive. I can recommend the Grand Canal Hotel, very nice. US ones have been okay, but I won't recommend them due to their charging and attitudes. Recommend highly the Alcatraz tour, the Cablecars in San Fran, and the hop on/off bus tour around Boston, just great. I do NOT recommend any airline that uses the Airbus A330-300. Noisiest and most uncomfortable of all. We're still going strong, belying our ages. The added fees . The state sales tax is one thing, can expect and plan for that, but the city of Boston wants more so they have a city tax on lodging, then the tourist tax and of course the hotel chains want t heir cut too and add a destination fee or some other fee that amounts to the same thing. Oh Don't forget the convention tax as well, if there is a convention going on anywhere in the city. Now the mayor of Boston is proposing an entrance tax of $15 per vehicle entering the downtown area. This is only going to make businesses move out and decrease the amount of revenue instead of her plan to increase it. Anne and I did have a wonderful time with Chris and Jan during their visit. Jan even got the chance to throw a snowball at me, so now her bucket list must be complete.

Good to hear from you Fred. When they keep increasing fees/taxes, they will end up pricing themselves out of the market.

Hippy Chippy wrote: Noticed that Rick. But all we've done this trip is adjust clocks every few days. Done NW Scotland with Mick & Moira Thompson, now in Edinburgh and Tomorrow is London for the Tower tour and a quick check of HMS Belfast, then the Eurostar to Paris...... hmmmmm........... Still going strong, except for climbing to the top of Hadrian's Wall (over the border into England), getting lost on it (yes, it's possible), and then falling off it. 5-point touchdown - both knees, right wrist, left hand plus forehead/nose. Fortunately I missed all the rocks and hit the soft spongey and very wet grass and ended up with England all over me. Nobody else around (blowing a gale, rain, etc) so made my way slowly back to civilisation, bleeding and very sore via a wrong turn and through a herd of sheep. No ram, luckily. Today, back up and - well, not running but moving okay. You can't keep a Mobi down for long!
