Much has been said and promised and embossed and lambasted about EVs, and I've noted it all for years. From the pollutants used to build the things, to the pollutants generated by their manufacture and the promised green effect from not using fossil fules and all the other bumf.

In amongst all this I've always wondered about the loss of taxes to the government via low petrol & diesel sales and the staggering taxes gained from such, and how said governments would compensate their coffers.

Well, the Kiwis are well under way in sewing up that side of things with their intent to hit EV drivers with a NEW TAX for not using fossil fuel and their cheating ways of not helping to pay for maintaining the roads they will use!

:happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:

It seems that the new government over there is about to nail each EV with a yearly tax of around $1,000 for road maintenence!!!!

:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

Now I wonder, when will our erstwhile Government by the sleazy start to move in this direction???? :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5:

Some motoring groups are rumouring they already are!!! :finga: :finga: :finga: :finga: :finga: :faaaarrk: n :fantastic:

I thought our Gov is already working on "charging" truck owners, petrol/diesel vehicle owners etc, to cover for the EV users. These charges will increase in time, trying to force everyone to EV's.

This is what is happening in the ACT.

Incentives for zero-emissions vehicles.
Owners of new or used zero emissions vehicles (ZEVs) in the ACT purchased or acquired between 24 May 2021 and 30 June 2024 are eligible to receive two years of free registration. To be eligible you must hold an ACT Driver Licence and garage the vehicle in the ACT.

I know it is hard to believe, but some of us actually drive to the rules, unlike the other tossers who should be banned.

If it rains you have to go faster, you have to tailgate, and not understand what stop signs mean. That's just some of their faults.

And don't start me on roundabouts. :angry10: :angry10:

Interesting about the rego, Connie. Obviously it doesn't include the 3rd party insurance so the savings are reduced quite a bit, but still an incentive.

Then of course are the rumblings from the insurance councils about the dangers that charging EV's within the confines of a house or apartment buildings which usually herald the introduction of surcharges, exclusion clauses and other such mitigating escapes.

As for the drivers in the ACT, it seems quite a few are in Cairns. As are Victorians, Sandgropers, NS Welshpersons and one particular Landcruiser-driving maniac from Van Diemen's Land. All have the same idea about winning the daily road race as do our locals. I've actually thought about buying a Ferret Armoured Car, but the accessabillity bit is holding me back. :faaaarrk:

I forgot about the Stamp Duty

ACT EV Stamp Duty Exemption From 24 May 2021, EVs purchased in the ACT may be eligible for full stamp duty exemption and two years of free registration. Unlike NSW, there is no limit on the value of the vehicle, meaning the stamp duty waiver is uncapped.

At this time the major rumblings on electric vehicle charging in "confined" spaces appears to be centred on E bikes and E scooters (noting they can be carried up into apartments). I find it funny that they put an "EV" sticker on the number plate. No sticker for petrol or diesel, LPG was added as it was possible to have an LPG tank in a former petrol engined vehicle (even though they had a safety valve/burst disc fitted to the LPG tanks, there was still a very real potential of a BLEVE). Nothing worse for firefighters to be in close fitting a fuel fire only to have a monumental explosion occur.
Then there is the violent reaction of L-ion batteries and the current firefighting effort to drown the batteries in water, finding now that attempting to drown L-metal batteries in water is a whole new (really violent reaction) ball game.
