Well we sent him off in fine style yesterday. About 5 WA based ex 5RAR Vietnam Vets turned up, all with a lotta medals on their jackets. Made my poor single Service Medal look pretty sick, but hey, that's ok too! My wife and each of my 3 kids delivered some fine words, along with 2 of his other kids. His 11yo granddaughter then played Cello for the final curtain call. Great send off, and I was pretty impressed with the number of people outside of the family who turned up.

Slightly I know, seeing as how none of us ever served in the US Marine Corps, nor ever heard anybody utter memorable/ quotable lines like, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning..." or "You can't handle the truth..." but I'm sure each one of us who served, either knew somebody, or can relate in some small way to'Gunny' R. Lee Ermey, who passed away a fortnight ago, on the 16th April, aged 74... I commend these two video clips...
All told, Ermey had roles in some 60-plus films, as well as several voice credits, including "Toy Story", "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy," "SpongeBob SquarePants," "The Simpsons," and "Family Guy."
On top of voice acting, he hosted two programs for the History Channel: "Mail Call," in which he provided expertise on military issues, both modern and historic, and "Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey," which focused on the development of different types of weapons.
Farewell, "Gunny", your larger than life presence will be missed...

Maybe a bit out of place but I just saw on FB the exWOFC Mal Kirkland has crossed the bar. Chippies have a bit of affinity with the gunnery branch as we often had to work in cahoots with them His funeral in next Tuesday in Mt Martha, Victoria.
Smooth seas Mal.

I had a fair bit to do with Alan in the 90's at DNB. He was the reason my eldest son got his posting to the Darwin area, and his subsequent success in his career.
Sadly missed. Fair winds, sunshine, and following seas Alan.
