[-o< Another well known and respected engineering legend has crossed the bar... :shame: I found this in my in-box today... :evil3:

Subject: VALE - CMDR JAKE JACOBS RAN (RTD)

It is with a sad heart that I onforward Lee Shimbel’s email advising of the passing of Commander Jake Jacobs.

Jake, a former Mechanician and later MEO, will be well remembered for his work in compiling dossiers relating to carcinogenic
substances among the various compounds used in the RAN during the period 1960 – 1990 generally and in the Marine Engineering
Branch in particular. His work was certainly instrumental in the removal of many of those compounds and in the assistance to many
former ADF personnel seeking appropriate DVA recognition of their exposure.

Our thoughts are with Jake’s family at this difficult time.

Jake, gone but not forgotten

Yours aye

Bob,

Jake Jacobs passed away yesterday after a long fight with cancer. His family were with him at home in Canberra.

Regards,
Lee

Lee Shimbel

-------------------------

Jake was also one of, if not the, prime mover behind the 2006 RANATE - HMAS Nirimba 50th Anniversary celebrations in Canberra...

We still carry Jake's comprehensive research on carcinogenic substances 'The Poisonous Environment Existing in the Royal Australian Navy
during the period of the 1950s to 1980s'
in our Main Photo Gallery :type: HERE... :evil3:

:prayer: Rest on your oars, Jake, your journey's done... RIP
:notworthy:

I, like a lot of others of our term, served with Jake in The Ferry. There were a number of Mechanicians at that time, but three in particular, Bob Sykes, Garry Jackson and Jake Jacobs all went SDME. Unfortunately, all are now in Stoker Heaven.

Jake's Vietnam Service included 1 x Escort Trip in Duchess in 65 and 3 x Ferry Trips in 66 & 72.

RIP Jake. :salute1:

Jake Jacobs was my boss at "Moreton" in '78 and not a bad boss but who along with Lee Shimbel had the, some might say, bad luck of being Cmdr Ken Young's son-in-laws, ouch. :pharque:

What a lost to our community,

I served with Jake Jacobs on either HMAS Sydney (the FFG) or Adelaide, I cannot recall which and worked closely with Jake, as his TOW for many months.

Farewell Jake and smooth sailing.
