From his facebook page - Sadly Dickie passed away last Thursday after a long battle with cancer. Not many could claim 32 years in uniform from JR to WO and cover off patrol boats, larger ships, FHQ and instructor. For a while he was my neighbour, class mate and fellow instructor - a great guy to be with. Sadly missed.

Subject: FW: Passing of Alan John (Dicky) DEARING

Dear All,

Sad news. Dicky Dearing will have been known to many on my distribution list. I served with Dicky in a number of places. He was renown to be a great Tiffy, a reliable individual and a good Freemason. Dicky will be sorely missed.

Farewell sailor

Subject: Passing of Alan John (Dicky) DEARING

Good Evening Bob,

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of my shipmate and friend Alan John (Dicky) DEARING who slipped away peacefully on 29.08.2019 after a courageous fight in which he lost the battle. During my career we would bump into each other and he was jovial character who I had the honour of serving with at MHQ under the stewardship of CMDR Al Diciunas. We had some great runs creating havoc as part of the Sea Training Group.

The Funeral Service to Celebrate the Life of Dicky will be held at Michael Crawford Funerals Chapel, 226 Main St Bacchus Marsh on Saturday (Sept 7, 2019) at 11.00 am. A Private Cremation will follow. I am flying in from Sydney hitting Melbourne at 0830 if anyone would like a lift to Bacchus Marsh.

REST IN Peace Mate.

Served with Dicky on the Stalwart (7 mess) and ran into him several times over the years.
A 'good hand' was Dicky.
RIP mate.

Served with Alan in a couple of postings, great character and well remembered.
Had hoped to attend his service today but sadly SWMBO is not feeling well enough for me to attend.
RIP Alan, fair winds and following seas.
