Dear All,

I was most saddened today to learn that WARRANT OFFICER RUSSELL GEORGE FAIRBAIRN R42214 - JULY 1958 MOBI ENTRY passed away peacefully on the 29th August 2020 following a short battle with cancer. Not only well known as an outstanding MOBI, he was also recognised as one who stood up for the rights of others – long may he be remembered.

I have requested details of his funeral and will pass them on when and if received.

Another fine man taken from us.

Yours aye

Bob Mummery

I had the pleasure of knowing Russ on a number of occasions at conferences as well as my later postings at Nirimba. A truly great bloke and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Russ trained as an OA and had Vietnam Service in HMAS Vampire in 65 & 66.

RIP Russell
:salute1:

I served with Russ a couple of times, can't remember where though. We have to accept the inevitable, but it is sad when you hear of a guy you knew quite well has gone over the bar.

Rest in peace Russ.

Sad day! I served with Russ during a posting back to Nirimba. As others have mentioned a really great guy who will be sadly missed. I recall he liked the ponies (no pun intended) and invested in a couple of racing thoroughbreds with, as is the usual case, limited success. The name Kings Relic comes to mind as one of the his horses. Some great memories.

RIP Russ, fair winds and following seas.

Subject: FUNERAL ADVICE - WARRANT OFFICER RUSSELL GEORGE FAIRBAIRN R42214 - JULY 1958 MOBI ENTRY

Dear All,

Advice received from Beverley Fairbairn follows:
The funeral will be on Monday, 7th, and due to COVID restrictions registration to attend the funeral must be made with White Lady Funerals on 02 9980 9935. It will be Live Streamed but I don’t have the link yet.
Russ was diagnosed on Christmas Eve with the only symptom being a sore shoulder so it was a shock.

Streaming details will be forwarded when known.

Yours aye

Bob Mummery

Yes, it is great quality video. Will have to wait and see what stream out on Monday to see if it matches this quality.
