I served with Ron in Hobart in 1985 during the Canadian 75th deployment.

A true gentleman, Ron seen service in Vietnam whilst in the Army, before changing to the RAN

RIP old mate.

The following was posted on HMAS Hobart DDG 39 FB page by Doug Stewart.

I'm sad to advise that "Uncle" Ron Clark, one of our Hobart shipmates from the 1980s has passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Like many, I have so many wonderful memories of Ron, going back nearly 40 years when we were young sailors. Ron was one of the true gentlemen.
Rest in Peace Shipmate.

The funeral for Ron will be held on Friday the 27th May at the VMR in Cannonvale at 11am. If you wish to attend, please arrive around 10.30am.

Never served with or met Ron other than through his posts on SH. A sad loss and again someone taken far to early in life.

RIP Ron. Rest your oars, and may you have fair winds and following seas.

Sad news.... Gary Jackson has passed away. A fine Mechanician, a bloody good bloke, and a hard football coach.
Message below from Peter Croser.

Sadly, Gary Jackson passed away yesterday in Mornington. I visited him last weekend and we discussed at length our times on Vendetta and at Cerberus and his trips on Melbourne and Sydney. The amount of detail he gave on work he did to fix VD after refit at WND including conducting full power trials using a stuck main steam throttle valve and used the bulkhead isolator to control flow and speed. Innovation on the fly. His professionalism was legendary taking the Anzac class through there builders trials as chief engineer. We talked about how I tried to entice him away to other programs a number of times including AWD but alas he stayed on the peninsula and his advice was always a shaping moment for us junior engineers.

He was well known by the shipbuilding community and RAN.

Arrangements not yet known.

I was lucky enough to have a good chat with Gary recently. Still really sad news, but at least we spoke about good times and said our farewells.

A truly genuine bloke and will be sadly missed by us all.

My sincere condolences to his family.

RIP Jacko :salute1:
