A sad loss indeed. Gary was a thorough gentleman, never saw him bothered by anything or anyone.
Only served with him at Cerberus where he coached the rugby team to a premiership if my memory serves me correctly. Sadly missed RIP Gary, fair winds and smooth seas.

Our submariner friends have sadly provided the following:

Eternal Patrol - CMDR Peter Paffard RN, RAN

Roger Cooper reports that we have lost a fine submariner, CMDR Peter Paffard RN, RAN (Rtd)

He joined the RN, Dartmouth, in 1952 and served in HMS Scotsman, HMS Telemachus, HMS Porpoise, HMS Trump (Australia) and HMS Oberon. He resigned from the RN and joined the RAN in 1967. He did five trips on the Sydney Vung Tau ferry and was Executive Officer and CO HMAS Kuttabul, CO HMAS Basilisk in Port Moresby, Director Defence Cooperation - RAN and CO HMAS Harman.

He met his wife Anne in Australia. He retired in 1985 and bought a property just outside Holbrook "Bilanudgel" raised cattle and grew grapes.

Roger said "I took over from Peter in 2005 as Chairperson Submarine Museum, he was my mentor and good friend, highly intelligent well spoken and always as Submarine CO's are cool calm and collected. He was a much travelled yachtsman sailing in all the world's long distance sea races including the Sydney to Hobart.

His funeral was held at BILANUDGEL which is accessed by crossing Lankeys Creek, the hearse couldn't get across so Peter's coffin was put on a 4wd Cruiser and taken to his place. He will be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea. [-o<

Yours aye

I just saw on FB that Captain Simon O'Brien, a WEEO, passed waway over the weekend from MND.
Not sure if he was a MOBI but he was one of us anyway.
RIP

The Ex members of the RAN and friends FB page have advised that Edna Short, Wife of ex CPOSV Jim Short has passsed away.
Edna was the seamstress at Nirimba by the sounds of it for quite a long time up until the closure of HMAS Nirimba.
RIP Edna.

It is sad and I think Jim has also passed, so their spirits are reunited.

Jim, a somewhat gentle giant with a quirky sense of humour at times.
Can't say I knew Edna.

You would have dealt with her at some stage, I think everyone did. If you ever had any alterations, repairs to uniforms etc, you saw Edna.

RIP Edna :salute1:

Dear Members,

On a very sad note we have learnt of the sudden passing of one of our longest serving members, Lofty Reich. He passed away overnight in hospital from complications after battling an illness for many few years.

Lofty was our Vice President for the last 10 years and a long time member of the Association for many years. He was also a member of Perth 2 commissioning crew and was always ready to assist and happy to share a joke.

On behalf of the President, Committee and members of the Association we extend to his wife Lexi and all his family our deepest condolences at this time.

Full details of any Funeral Arrangements will be promulgated in due time.

Regards

Tom
Secretary, HMAS Perth Association WA Area
