Brian,

Thank you so much for your thoughts and comments and coordinating the responses from Steve’s naval mates. It has meant a lot to me and I know also to his family, especially Margaret, his mum. Steve often spoke of his navy days and I have heard some of these experiences and stories before (a couple not!!!) – am touched to be able to include everyone’s memories and thoughts as part of Steve’s farewell.

Could you please pass on my thanks to all, happy for you to forward on this email – I have tried to respond to some individually but wouldn’t have covered everyone.

Steve and I had many plans for our little farm and the future and never, ever contemplated our time together being cut short. I am very lucky to be part of Steve’s loving family so know that special support will always be there. He was and is much loved.

Any friends passing Spring Hill Farm will always be welcome to drop in.

Thank you again,

Maddie

Knew Steve pretty well through cricket. A great guy.
Rest easy Steve.

This was sent to Bob Mummery... :evil3:

Hello Bob,

Don't know if you have been advised or not; however a former MOBI Steve Hudson (Jan 67 intake, Chippie) died of a sudden heart attack last month.

His funeral will be at the Mollymook Surf Club on Thursday 5 November at 1100.

Kind regards,
Greg Hellessey

Jerry Marsden has provided the following comments regarding Steve's send-off:

It was a rainy windy day at Mollymook SLSC and a good crowd to farewell Steve.

MOBI representation comprised Ed Thomson, Ed Watson, Tony Fletcher, Greg McTernan and myself from our intake, along with Phil Croese, an Ulladulla lad, there as well. Tributes from others of our lot who couldn't make it were read out – and there quite a few of them. Greg and I drove over together from Canberra in the morning and back after the service.

It was a very good service with family members speaking of their memories and also of Steve’s love of the Navy. It remained a real part of his life and he was very proud of it. Steve was a real recycler and conservationist, so it was fitting that his coffin was made out of recycled fence palings!

Greg and I said the Naval Ode for Steve and the family was appreciative of that ceremony. We were able to talk with the family with Steve’s Mum and Dad being there as well as his sisters and daughters plus partners and grandchildren (and former spouse). Steve was only 64 ½ and his time came way before it should have.

Thanks for that, BC, he would have been very appreciative of those thoughts, I'm sure...
