Received the following email from Cliff Hobson today.

G‘day mates,

Just got this info from Phil Croese

As you may know, Larry had been fighting a long battle against cancer (mostly liver related) for about 8 years and, after many operations and procedures, has been on a waiting list for a liver transplant for about 12 months. While undergoing transplant surgery last Saturday, and after a bad run with his health beforehand, Larry passed away.

Such sad news.

As soon as I know the funeral details I’ll let you know.

Regards,

Cliff Hobson

Larry John Ward was from the 24th Intake, joining Nirimba in January 1968.

RIP Larry :salute1:

[-( It's always sad when I hear of MOBIs who joined RANATE much later than I, being called to meet their maker so much sooner than me... :bugger:

Taken before his time... Rest on your oars Larry John Ward, your journey's done... [-o<

Larry was the Ikara PO on Stuart in 76/77. Good greenie and a hard runner.
RIP Larry.

I knew Larry only after he had left the mob. He was certainly a runner, and we had many smokies with him with the likes of Al Kates, Mark Biro, Wayne Hayward, Mick Roughan, Jeff (Bongo) Wakefield, etc..

He was legendary with the likes of Lennie Fairful in the day.

Gone too soon. RIP Larry.

Remember the fearful L's, Larry Ward and Lennie Fairful....certainly runners extra-ordinaire, and didn't mind a knuckle or two and a skinful of piss. I'm not surprised to hear Larry's demise was liver related...but it's very sad to hear of his passing...another Nirimba character departed far too early.

RIP Larry... :angel5:

A sum up from Cliff Hobson:

Hi there again,

Well today we farewelled Larry "BenJaw" Ward - Phil Croese, John Baxter, Peter Hale and myself attended his funeral service at the Church by the Bridge in Kirribilli.

The church was almost full and Larry was eulogised by friends and family. A great story about Larry is in the attached web posting from the Mosman Rugby Club where he both played and coached.

Also attached is a copy of the front page of the funeral service card.

Was the fact that Lary starred in a beer ad in the mid 70s mentioned at all? I think it was one of those "I feel like a tooheys" ad or maybe it was for KB lager, cant remember but he was sure in the ad.
Seems like he hadn't changed much over the years.
You alway got to like a man that loves a Border Collie!!
