Sadly, Geordie, I can confirm...

I saw the following on the Wal Midgeley's 14th MOBI Intake's FaceBook Page 'mobijan63' yesterday...
:evil3:

----------------------------------------------------------

Reporting sad news regarding David "Spot" Collins.

Bruce Lewis
visited him in hospital two days ago and he was looking forward to going home.

"Just letting you know that David came home yesterday and passed away peacefully at 4am.

Could you please convey the message to all his Navy buddies.

Thanks for visiting him on Monday, he really appreciated it.

Regards Dot.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I served on Stuart in 1982/83 with Dave/Spot.
He came across from WA to pick up Stuart as she was coming out of her Half life/Modernisation refit.
I left Stuart after the workups and trials as I didnt really want to go to the West and joined Swan.
My position was made difficult on the ship as we both had charge tickets, he was senior to me but I had been posted to nuship stuart quite early on as the standby party, when there was only 4 of us there. I did all the trials, compartment inspections and workups and he just arrived and assumed the charge position.
He was a unique character.

It was resolved when I was offered a posting to Swan and Don Cuthbertson/Cunningham (Cant rember which one now), posted on board and took over. I think that the person had just finished their 4's course which resolved all sorts of things.
Peter Gillespie was the Chief tiff, Jack Frost the Chief Stoker and Terry Makings was the MEO.

Rip Dave/Spot

thanks for that info on Spot/Dave Collins.
It is sad that he didnt make it to the latest reunion.
In chatting to Bruce Sloper, Dave was eulogised at the reunion and his passing acknowledged.
RIP
DAve

:oopssign: My apologies if those eulogies were from the 14th MOBI Intake's Reunion, not Spot's Funeral service, Wal Midgeley's post on their FaceBook Page wasn't specific... #-o
