Can one of you northern NSW fellas confirm the "passing", or otherwise, of ex CPO Cox'n Kev Saville, in Lismore this week. |

I can't confirm Kev's passing Geordie, but I had heaps of fantastic times with Kev on the Sydney. He was as shaky as a shithouse rat, but we had so much fun on our runs ashore. He was older than me and took me under his wing. (may have taught me some naughty things though). I haven't seen him for a huge amount of years and I am very sad if he has passed away. |

He was my Div Chief in King Division in my later terms at Nirimba. By reputation, we were all sh*t scared of him, but once you got to know him, he was a great Div Chief. Sorry to hear if it is so. |

Scary for a reason; Al Kates and I were lucky enough to meet his two lovely daughters pre a march through Penrith. Not knowing who he was we flirted (as young men do) with these visions of loveliness trying to take some value from the day. The next day I get piped to the Gangway, so I doubled up there as we did. Kev called me into his office with the greeting " So you're one of the filthy little mongrels who want to F%$#k my daughters are you?" Safe to say I gave up on those ambitions on the spot. Scared the testosterone right out of me! Later he was our Div Chief and as I got to know him, I can safely say he was a true leader. One of my inspirations for the remainder of my career. Never met too many more the likes of that man. He left his mark on me and I am grateful to have known him. |
