Interesting reading Rick, but I'm afraid the writeup on Mardi Gras activities made me want to vomit... :puke: :vomit: :vom: :vom: I can't reconcile marching in their uniforms...get into jeans and T-shirts, or sequins and g-strings if neccessary... :idjit:

I'm afraid Defence is just another one of those organisations concentrating on woke and DEI crap to the detriment of their core business... :angry4: :banghead: :brick-wall:

Subject: Fwd: NIRIMBA & MOBIs - Success From Endeavour, Rev 2 Update for Review & Comment

To all MOBI's, former NIRIMBA staff members and those who maybe interested. Bill Marcroft (15th MOBI Intake) has developed Revision 2 to his earlier edition of the MOBI story..

It has certainly smoothed up the story and provides a more rounded epistle.

Thanks Bill

To: Brian Swan <bswa8516@bigpond.net.au>, Bob Mummery <mobi_rbm@mobibob.online>

Good Afternoon Brian and Bob,

Following feedback from many people on the story sent out in October last year, I’ve added more photos, done a lot of editing and added more details.

Towards the end, I’ve added a bit more detail about the end of the old apprenticeship scheme and tried to give some context in fairly simple terms of what it was about (hopefully I’ve got it right).

I’ve also managed to get some “still” photos from the old “Skilled Hands at Sea” recruiting movie, available on You Tube.

Hopefully this update will provide a bit better insight into what RANATE was about between 1956 and 1972. It should enhance the trip down memory lane for many people.

Looking forward to any feedback and / or comment about poor assertions on my behalf.

Regards,
Bill Marcroft

Would still dispute the reference to the closure (intentionally closed under an Admirals instruction, nothing more). The image of the District Officers Boat offers it as MB168 when it is MB172. He is correct that MB168 is still in use by the collection at Spectacle Island. Nirimba was the second naval air station. HMAS Albatross was commissioned in 1948 (Nirimba commissioned as a naval air station in 1953) and closed in 1956 and recommissioned as RANATE the following day.
