Bob Salter has just advised me that Gary passed away today.

And so we lose another MOBI character, our sympathy to his family.

Funeral details will be circulated when known.

RIP Pav

Bob Salter has forwarded some unfortunate news regarding Gary Le Pavoux, see his email below.

I well remember Pav from my days as an Apprentice in MOBILAND. Pav was 18 months or so ahead of me and he was well renown among the MOBIs of the day as an athletic star. Later I came across Pav in the early days of HMAS STIRLING where a number of MOBIs were now serving. Three of us were on Commander Peter Hugonnet’s staff; Tony Hughes as WEEO, myself as MEO and Pav as OIC Maintenance Planning. There was a fair spread of MOBIs among the workshop staff and Pav knew them all.

I am sure that we all wish Pav all the best in his current predicament and hope that the medicos can keep him comfortable as he endures the side effects of his treatments.

Hang in there Pav, we are all pulling for you

Hello Bob,

A bit of sad news that Gary is in palliative care in a Goodwin Nursing Home in Canberra. He has lung cancer and also suffers from dementia. He was in the July 1958 entry and he and I did our SD course together in England in 1970.

Take care,

Bob Salter

Gareth Anthony Le Pavoux R42229, July 1958 Intake.

His Vietnam Service included escort trips to Vung Tau in HMAS Vendetta (65) and HMAS Duchess (68).

RIP Gareth :salute1:

Gary was the engineer on Moresby when I joined her after refit. Very supportive and very capable, a pleasure to have served with him.
Sad to seem him go, condolences to his family.
Vale Gary, RIP, fair winds and following seas.
