Last week us Chippies lost Mick Lusham to dementia, and we are the poorer for that loss.

Mick was in West Oz, travelling around when his symptoms manifested rapidly, and he was taken into care not long after. And last week the cruel disease that it is took him from his loved ones and his many, many mates.

I first met Mick on the 1980 Chief Chippies' Q Course and was amazed at how many subjects he could talk on.... indefinitely........ and even more whilst having a beer or several! One of nature's gentlemen, blessed with an easy-going nature and great sense of humour, and liked by all who met him.

Farewell old mate, may you have soft breezes, a following sea and warm sunshine on your final deployment. My many sympathies to your loved ones for your loss.

And Mick, when you have your next golf game, may you also score a Cooper. (long story that I may tell at a future time).

I had the pleasure of serving with Mick on the Vung Tau Ferry. CJ has summed Mick quite well. I didn't have a close relationship with Mick, but I do remember his likable qualities and helpful nature. Sorry I didn't catch up with him again during my time in the outfit.

Another good bloke taken by a hideous disease.

Mick's Vietnam Service consisted of:

2 x Escort Trips to Vung Tau in HMAS Vampire in 1966 & 67.

2 x Trips to Vung Tau in HMAS Sydney in 1970 & 71.

Condolences to Mick's family and friends.

RIP Mick

Vale Mick. I didn't know him all that well, but he seemed like a good bloke. Fair winds and following seas.

[-( I can't do better than to agree with everything SeeJay has said to honour Mick... :notworthy:

:-k I'm not sure where I last served with Mick, perhaps on HMAS Melbourne to pick up our first batch of Skyhawks and Trackers, or much later on HMAS Brisbane...

Mick was an early member of RAN SH since April 2004, his signature block :evil3: reads as follows:

Mick Lusham
R64576
Ex-CPOMTH4

Enlisted 28 June 1965
Discharged 25 September 1985
Served in: Cerberus, Kuttabul, Nirimba, Melbourne, Vampire, Creswell, Sydney, Queenborough, Leeuwin, Stalwart, CPSO Sydney, Brisbane and FMU

VALE Mick, rest on your oars, your journey's done... R.I.P. [-o<

=; A quick call :mobile: to SeeJay a few minutes ago resolved a nagging thought  in the back of my brain... :-k SeeJay confirmed that indeed, Muck Lusham had joined us on a couple of our early :wine:

, :drink 42: with his name first appearing on the list :evil3: for our :tchin: 5th Rocks Run :ouzo: back in 2007... :yess:
