Sadly I must advise the passing of Barry (The Moth) Stephens on Tuesday 23 April. Barry was well known and well liked among the early MOBIs and well respected as a CERA.

Funeral details will be forwarded when known.

In the meantime, can anyone enlighten me on how Barry became known as The Moth?

Barry's Vietnam Service consisted of:

1 x Vietnam Deployment in HMAS Melbourne in 1965

3 x Escort Trips to Vung Tau in HMAS Vampire. One in 1966 and two in 1967

1 x Vung Tau Trip in HMAS Sydney in 1967

I don't ever remember meeting Barry, but sorry to hear about losing another of our pioneers. Condolences to Barry's family and friends.

Sad to see him cross the bar so early.

I watched the live stream of Barry's service yesterday.
The service was very well attended with the church packed, the hall packed and a considerable crowd outside, in the words of the minister, and as the photos from Ward Hack show.
A very well respected and liked member of his local community. Seemed to be involved with everything and everyone.
RIP Barry, fair winds and following seas.
