The following emails being circulated bear the sad news of yet another 1st MOBI Intake 'Pioneer' crossing the bar... [-o<

Unfortunately one of our most senior MOBIs has crossed the bar, see Tom Shaw's email below.
Bob was a popular member of the first intake of MOBIs and leaves the thinning ranks of the Old Boys as an extremely well regarded MOBI mate.

Yes, it is always sad to lose one of our pioneers. From what I found in his service records, he was a diesel Tiff and became a submariner.

I never had the pleasure of serving with Bob, but my condolences go to is family and friends.

Vale Bob, you watch is done.

Sad news indeed, Bob was MOBI number 6 and from Tom Shaw's message, our oldest. I still remember when the first term had their 60th reunion and I was amazed to see the picture of those that were left and wondered if my intake would have one. Of course the 13th intake and quite a few others have passed that milestone, In fact our guys are having a 64th reunion on a pacific ocean cruise next year.

Rest in peace Bob, you have certainly contributed to the MOBI tradition. :ok:

Hi MOBI mates...
Another milestone of Nirimba’s history has passed us. Our oldest member, Bob Moores R42006 has now passed.
Bob joined his service on 2nd of July 1956, passing away 2 days after his 85th birthday.
Bob started his apprenticeship as an Aircraft Artificer and changed to an ERA after our government decided not to have a Fleet Air Arm.
After completing his time at Nirimba he joined Melbourne for about 2 years and later went to become a submariner with various posting in the RN and RAN.
He was promoted to a CERA in 1970, and later to an SD Engineer Officer, finally as a Lieutenant Commander.
After later postings at sea he served at CODOCK during refits of various submarines.
I have enjoyed Bob’ company for 68 years and will miss him.
We still now have 17 members of the Class of July 1956.
Regards
Tom Shaw
