VALE: CPOMTP3 Bevis Gabriel Harrison (Bill) ZEMEK - R32807 [-o<

Another sad day as one of the Marine Engineering Branch pulled his last fire. Bill was well known in the days of steam. He set a fine example from both a technical point, from a compassionate point and as a staunch supporter of all Naval tradition. Bill was known to daily spit polish his footwear, including his boiler boots, and to appear ‘neat as a pin’ in the uniform of the day which included starched and ironed overalls when at work.

Bill and I served in the DDG, HMAS HOBART 1973 / 1974 and I could not have asked for a better Regulating CPOMTP.

RIP Bill.

Yours aye

Bob Mummery

Ah, I remember Bill. He did a stint on the Vung Tau Ferry.

He did stand out when walking in the passageway outside the Reg Office. I'm sure he would have preferred our ships to be painted "metallic Blue with chrome anchors and guard-rails"!

Vale Bill. :salute1:

This is what I (Kerry Kerr) have posted on "The Last Watchbill" :type: http://www.navystokers.org/index.php?op ... &Itemid=45

Bevis (Bill) Gabrial Harrison Zemek BEM R32807 CPOMTP* 29/5/1928 - 7/3/2015 After a long illness

Funeral Details:
The Funeral Service for BEVIS will be held in the Rose Chapel on Thursday, 12th March, 2015 commencing 12:00pm at Palmdale Lawn Cemetery and Memorial Park, Palmdale, NSW

Following the service, the cortege will proceed to the graveside at Palmdale.

I don't usually place too many comments after the death of one of our 'brothers' but in Bills case I will make an exception.
Bill was the epitome of a Chief STOKER, he was 'old Navy', immaculate in presentation, precise in giving orders & his diction was always understood.

He was also the Navy's best regulator, having served on 2 ships with Bill, once as a kellick, & the other as a PO, I have first hand knowledge of his prowess and abilities in this area. I remember when he drafted off the HOBART he
had made up the Watch Bill for the next 4 months including draft ins & outs, the first thing the new Chief Stoker did was tear up the watchbill & confusion reigned supreme till I drafted off DEE.

For those who did the last trip to Vietnam on BRISBANE they will remember that it was Bill's idea to start the HMAS BRISBANE Association.

Bill was a credit to his uniform & the Engineering Branch.

Kerry Kerr

One of those names that stick in your memory, not because they were different, but because they were exceptional. Farewell to a shipmate (Vung Tau Ferry). Rest on yours oars. :salute1:

Please be advised that Walter (Wally) Christensen R37599 – Petty Officer Engineering Mechanic
crossed the bar on Saturday 28th March 2015. Wally was a resident in a nursing home in Bundaberg.

He travelled to Vietnam on HMAS Vendetta in 1966.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
