Brian is/was Keith brother and joined with me in January '64. Had many a good time with Brian and spent many a weekend on leave at their house in Canley Vale, conveniently next door to the pub. Had my introduction to Rugby League when I went with Brain, Keith and their elder brother Trevor and Lenny to my first game of League (Parramatta v Newton) at Cumberland Oval. Pretty one sided game from memory with the Thornett brothers Ken and Dick, Bob Bugden, Brian Hambly, Barry Leaney, Ivor Lingard, Ron Lynch, Barry Rushworth, Ron Willey playing for Parramatta and Bob Keys, Brian Moore, Paul Quinn, Graham Wilson and Clarrie Jeffries playing for Newton. I remember the day quite well as it was the first of many such outings that we went on including later RL tests against the Kiwis and the the Poms.
Unfortunately Brian didn't attend our 50th reunion last year. Very sad day indeed and too close to home.
Vale Brian, rest your oars. May you have fair seas and following seas. Condolences to Keith and all your family.

As it is our custom to give former RANATE Apprentices an 'In Memorium' topic of their own, I've copy/ pasted the three (3) posts above into Brian's own topic which you can access HERE...

I don't know that we actually got as far as the R46XXXs , PK, and very few made Captain, also, being born in 1933, he's a bit long in the tooth, (even older than Ned,) to have been around when RANATE began in 1956, so I suspect he wasn't an Apprentice...

As far as I cud see on National Archives, he joined in '51 and made it to REM1, then transferred to NAA to do Observer training in '56 and was washed out in '57 as unsuitable. Maybe he joined the army and made Captain that way?
Possibly Capt was a family nickname for him.

Hi Guys,
I have just received the following news from Neil Walton.
Hi BC,
Can you please advise our naval brethren of the loss of former LCDR Kevin Farmer (WEEO), Saturday evening after a long and brave fight with MS. He was only 70.
I was fortunate enough to serve with Kev in SWAN in 1977/78, as his Deputy WEEO, and we remained staunch friends all these years. He was also WEEO of VAMPIRE for some time after that.
He is survived by two daughters, Kirsten and Ingrid, and (about) 6 grandchildren – all of whom loved him and will greatly miss him.
Funeral at 1230 Friday 08 Jan 16. To be held at Macquarie Park Crematorium. (North Ryde(ish)), off Delhi Road.
To be followed by a wake at RSL Anzac Village, Narrabeen (90 Veterans Parade) at 1400. Will actually take place in the Gallipoli Building on site.
Regards
Neil Walton
