G'day All,

Unfortunately it is my unfortunate job to inform you that Dave Twiss passed away early this morning from complications of having 2 brain tumours, asbestosis, & a secondary cancer in his spine.

Jeff & Jackie Hinson & myself travelled to Bunderberg yesterday & spoke with Dave for a couple of hours, true to form Navy Davy was a gentleman to the end. Dave knew what was happening & everything had been planned.

When we arrived back at Jeff's place in Hervey Bay, Jeff received a call from Dave where he (Dave) matter of factley told him that "I am going tonight or tomorrow & I wanted to say good bye cobber". I spoke to Dave after Jeff & he wanted me to tell all his mates that he loved them like brothers. As you can imagine I had a tear in my eye after hearing those words.

Dave first entered Pussers as an apprentice, he didn't finish his apprenticeship, but later on he entered as a direct entry, Dave rose to the dizzy heights of Lieutenant Commander & as he resigned his commission, his 3 strips arrived be he never got to wear them.

I will promulgate funeral details when known.

Farewell Dave, you have done your time in hell & now you go to a better place for your reward(s).

Very sorry to hear of Choofa's passing.

He definitely had steam in his arteries.

Rest your oars Dave.

Damm!! Sad news indeed......Dave was on the same SGCE Course in Leeuwin as me.
If heaven is where all the old steam trains go.....he'll be in his element.

Sad to hear. Dave was quite a character and will be missed.

Rest easy Dave, fair winds and following seas (with a good head of steam).

Very sad to hear of Dave's passing. The last time I saw him was at Bob Sykes' funeral....we seem to be bouncing from funeral to funeral these days.... and all passing far too young... :tear: :tear: :tear: :tear:

Fair winds and smooth seas Dave...RIP

Just a slight correction with Kerry Kerr's post.

Dave didn't rejoin as a DET, he would have left Nirimba and went to General Entry and thenbecame a Mech. I first met Choofa on Sydney and he was a Mech along with the likes of Garry Paton, Les Bush and Garry Jackson.

Yeah that's right Brian, he started in the 6th and passed out with the 26th.

One of the most genuine blokes I ever met.
