It is with much sadness that I pass on the news of DROS Fox. Whilst I don't know his service history in detail I do know that, among other postings, he was the commissioning Engineer Officer for HMAS MORESBY, WEEO of the carrier HMAS MELBOURNE and Commanding Officer of HMAS STIRLING. And to follow on from Mike Taylor's observation below, DROS was an avid golfer and member of Chatswood Golf Club in Sydney.

The funeral for Commodore D.R.O.S. (Daryl) Fox AM RAN Retd will be conducted at St.Paul's Anglican Parish Church, Manuka at 1130 Monday 14th November.
This will be followed by a short committal service at the Norwood Crematorium.

To quote Daryl's Funeral Notice today, "A kind and generous man, an officer and a gentleman, an avid sportsman with an infectious sense of humour and love of life."

For your information, Commodore Fox wrote the foreward to "Skilled Hands At Sea" and was the CO of RANATE - HMAS Nirimba from 1980 to 1982.

I had the privilege of serving with DROS Fox. An absolute gentleman who was always the same to people whether a sailor, junior officer or otherwise. A sad loss!

3. LEUT FOX’S POSTINGS INCLUDED HMAS ANZAC WEAPONS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING OFFICER (WEEO), TRAINING STAFF ROLES AND SPECIALIST TRAINING COURSES BEFORE HIS PROMOTION TO LCDR IN 1964

4. LCDR FOX RETURNED TO SEA IN 1967 AS DEPUTY WEEO IN THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER HMAS MELBOURNE AND WAS PROMOTED TO CMDR IN 1968

5. CMDR FOX UNDERTOOK FURTHER SHORE POSTINGS, INCLUDING THE PROJECT TEAM FOR THE NEW NAVAL COMMUNICATIONS STATION IN DARWIN, BEFORE AGAIN RETURNING TO SEA AS WEEO HMAS MELBOURNE. HE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY APPOINTED AS FLEET WEEO AND IN 1977 WAS PROMOTED TO CAPT IN THE ROLE OF PROJECT DIRECTOR FOR THE GUIDED MISSILE DESTROYER UPDATE
