Ron Bateman RIP Mate

An old story of Ron, February 1970 at Portland Victoria, whilst we on Sydney were doing Guard of Honour for the Queens Visit

Ron, Naughty boy got a slap on wrist for pinching the local Hotel ( I think it was Hotel's) Flag off the flag pole when we were out on the Piss.

He was a top bloke and sadly we lost contact over the years after Sydney time

Ron Bateman’s funeral took place this afternoon. As expected, it was only a small family gathering, and the family did him proud with emotional stories of his life.

For those who were unable to view the live stream, here are a few shots to remember Ron.

Charlie, I was on that same trip to Portland and I remember the flag story, just didn't realise it was Ron. It was the only pub, and as I remember a few 'items' were liberated during our visit. I think they were happy to see us sail off into the distance. :lol1:

Chris

I can remember that trip and incident like it was yesterday

Can easily remeber Ron in those pictures, I think I may have him on an old Super 8 movie I took on Sydney when we had the Ban Yan on the island up north Queensland in 1970

Lot of Blokes now passed on from those days

Cheers

I think it was Cid Island. We went up through the Whitsundy Passage to "Clean Ship". And, as a reward, as many as possible were taken to a nearby beach by LCM, for a big banyan. I can still remember seeing a huge shark passing us by.

We sailed back out to sea passed Hayman Island, before heading south.
