Brian,

Rick Shaw passed away peacefully this afternoon. He is survived by his wife Valerie, children and grandchildren. Rest in peace our MOBI mate.

Regards

Dick Roebuck

Thanks Dick, very sad news. Please pass on my deepest sympathies and condolences to Val, families and friends. Rick will be sadly missed by everyone.

Rick trained as a Shipwright but at the end of his fifth term, and as I remember, he had to retire due to more pressing family needs. He did finish his apprenticeship and to gone to a successful business in the marine industry. From what I understand, one of his many highlights was designing and building numerous boat prototypes, to on sell to a number of major boat manufacturers in Australia.

He was also heavily involved in his local CFA for many years until finally retiring a few years ago.

Rick and Val had been attending our term reunions in recent years. And it was obvious his MOBI training left an ethos for the rest of his life. He definitely displayed a "can do attitude and determination", in anything he choose to do. He fitted right back in, just as if he'd never left!

RIP Rick. Smooth seas and following winds.

From the details above, :laughing3: it would seem that Richard was a capable and well liked MOBI, (and a Chippy to boot, :yess: can't have been all bad,) :finga:
but with the time-frames mentioned, I didn't come across him in my time, (I'd graduated before he joined, then he'd left before he graduated...) :dontknow:

=; VALE: Rest on your oars, Rick, your journey's done... R.I.P. [-o<
