I have received some very sad news, that Wayne has been involved in a fatal motorcycle accident, last Saturday morning. Wayne’s daughter Kristy, has told Chook Howell the following:

“Wayne was on an organised ride with mates. Going to a lunch. Had a refurbished sidecar that he had restored on its first time out. Came around a corner and lifted the sidecar wheel a little, so compensated by turning right a little. Into the path of a light truck towing a horse float. Instant death. Family do not want a funeral, or other events. But Kristy would appreciate any navy time photos, as she has none.”

Regards

Chook

NSW Police Report
Motorcyclist dies in crash near Boorowa

Saturday, 27 September 2025 07:24:03 PM

A man has died after his motorcycle and a truck collided in southern NSW this morning.
Emergency services were called to Frogmore Road, Frogmore, about 20km north-east of Boorowa, about 11.15am (Saturday 27 September 2025), after a rider was critically injured when his northbound motorbike and a truck collided in the southbound lane.
Fellow riders rendered assistance, but the 74-year-old man died at the scene.
A second rider, aged 58, was also injured when he came off his bike when attempting to avoid the first crash.
He was airlifted from the scene in a stable condition, suffering injuries to left foot and shoulder.
The driver of the truck, a 51-year-old man, escaped injury, as did the two horses he was transporting.
Inquiries are continuing.

Although I never had a lot to do with Wayne after 1st term or out in the fleet, but many of the Greenies knew him a lot better. Over the past decade or so, I did have a number of chats/emails etc, regarding notifications and/or updates. I did enjoy a number of longer interactions during last year’s reunion. From what I understood, Wayne was very highly regarded and sort after in the mining industry.

If anyone has any photos of Wayne during his naval career (as an ETS), please let me know and I will arrange for transfer and passing them on accordingly. The family would be greatly appreciating them.

Wayne’s Vietnam Service included:
1 x Escort Trip in HMAS Torrens in 1972.

I wish to pass on my condolences to Christine, families and friends.

RIP Wayne Fair winds and following seas.

I couldn't say I knew/remember the man, but he was a mobi, and as such, it's sad.
Vale old mate, RIP.
