I have just finished reading Mike Carltons book "Dive". Strange what you read into from the text of books. Always thought that the demise of Nirimba was orchestrated purely by two former Cerberus trained naval college officers (protecting a particular location) but it appears the decision of one Kim Beazley to insist on one of them being promoted "against" the wishes of one other actually worked in the effort covering the "grand plan".

The funny part would be that these are (predominately) Democrats who complied with the DEI principles....

The State Labor member for the seat of Blacktown is making waves on the threat to the educational precinct on the former HMAS Nirimba site. It would seem that the Western Sydney University has been downsizing its involvement on the site for some time and has diluted their own "limited" skill training to that of diploma level only. Added to that, the TAFE has been relocating some of its training to the Kingswood campus and the two senior high schools (acting as the Year 11 and Year 12 location for surrounding high schools) have been required to market themselves on a different level, with Year 11 and Year 12 classes being returned to the surrounding high schools. Now you would think that, being an educational precinct, that a new build public school (carrying the Nirimba Fields name) would be ideally located on the Nirimba site, but it is being built 400 metres to the north of the precinct (on the former airfield site). The State member is concerned that the University will sell off the site for something like housing but there might be a little glitch to that - it is possible that the Commonwealth supplied the land under a transfer agreement that sees the requirement to return it to the Commonwealth if the University vacates so, an expansion of development by the Defence Housing Authority might be on the cards...........

Further to Brian's post above, click HERE for the video clip link of Blacktown MP (ALP) Stephen Bali's speech 3 days ago, on the 19th March, to the NSW Parliament on the subject.
