"Lookin For An Echo" was one of my favourites from Ol' 55.

They also sang Goodnight Sweetheart.

Cheers

Concur guys - 'Looking for an Echo' was their best song. :prayer: :supz: :supz:

Their first hit single was Paul Anka’s ‘Diana’, and they also had a hit with ‘I want a Rockin’ Christmas’. That one was written by their manager and now well known Rock identity Glenn A Baker, who also named the band from the Tom Waits song Ol ’55. His other major naming exercise was changing front-man Peter Bryan’s name to Frankie J Holden.

Their album ‘Take it Greasy’ almost made it to number 1, and stayed in the charts for around 40 weeks.

They (the ‘original’ Ol ’55; before Frankie J Holden and Wilbur Wilde left in 1977) were a great band for the short period they were around. The ‘new’ band (minus Frankie and Wilbur) didn’t do anywhere near as good.

BC, I was surprised at the number of songs that had been made about Vietnam. Even Johnny Cash sang about his visit there.

So was I, considering the amount of anti-vietnam sentiment of the time. There were heaps who made songs about the war.

I guess they had a need to make money!

BC,
In defence of the anti-war protest songs. One of the best songs, and Vietnam or war was not mention in the lyrics was

"We gotta to get of this place......."

Many a bar in the FAR East had it's rafters rattled by the warped attempts to sing the song, especially after several Anchor or San Migs.

Ahh there is nothing like the full throated roar of the all Male Engineering Choir, suitable lubricated and fueled by Agent Beer.

Nothing brings on Industrial Deafness quicker than standing in Hong Kong Bar with 30 other sailors drinking and singing (or trying to sing) at the top of their voices.
