I see Jacqui Lambie is pushing for the closure of the Australian Defence Force Academy (based on the outcomes of the report) with all future Defence personnel joining and training at the standard base location/levels, with those showing promise moving on to the Academy, in due course.

This will send a tidal wave of horror down the halls of woke power in Navy Office (or whatever it may be called these days).
May even cause the removal of a dozen or more various departments, offices (and officers) of obscurity that achieve nothing but have huge costs in payroll, facilities and 'requirements'.
Potential for huge savings.
..and of course it won't happen. After all, how could the navy possibly run without being populated (or should that be 'infested') with staggering numbers of officers with arts degrees?

Arts degrees? Aren't they the warfighters?

Saw an article the other day about a training grenade that the army has recently had developed. This doesn't go bang when it "detonates". It makes other noises instead. Perhaps the "bang frightens the poor children.

There have been a number of articles on the effects of blast waves from the use of grenades in training (commando/special forces) and on the destruction of EOD (naval clearance divers). Made me think about those serving on the Western Front in WWI and whether they suffered a similar affect. Unlike those involved with the circumstances above (where they are in the direct blast zone) those in WWI were in trenches (for some part) and the blast wave would have gone over them. The new training grenade acts to confirm the aspects of the operation without the concussive effect. You would assume that the use of the "real thing" would still occur but not as the only way of use. One way to reduce the potential damage to individuals involved in training.
