Ever wondered what Vung Tau looks like these days? Well, here's what one of Vung Tau's suburbs looks like.
Remember the hill in the background? You can't see the rocket and shell holes any more, and it's a bit greener but it still looks the same.
The suburb is on the site of the 1st Australian Logistic Support Group's base area, and the pic was taken only a few weeks ago.
How things change....

How different to the images from the 60's and 70's. It could be a suburb anywhere in the world. My, aren't the peasants living well now.

Good one Rick!!
Brian, the bloke that took the shots reckons Vung Tau is a bit of a resort town these days. Even has (or had) an Ettamogah Pub.

What a surprise I got a few minutes ago when I tuned in to Channel 7's morning show.
There was Dick Smith announcing a one million dollar donation to the Australian War Memorial to set up a display to honour Vietnam Veterans.
He even went as far to say that Vietnam had more significance to him than Gallipoli. No doubt that will be hashed and rehashed by others over the coming days, but it made me look at the man in a new light.

I saw the same interview.
His comment about being born in 1944 meant, he was too young for Korea, and too old for Vietnam (conscription) and because of this, he was given the oportunity to get into business and become finacially sufficient, while others were off serving their country.
I think it is a very commendable act from Dick Smith.
It also isn't the first time he has donated large amounts to very worthy causes.

The man does a lot of good with his dough. Think he may believe in that adage, "The only sin is to die rich".
I don't have a problem!
