Lou,

I'm sure it would be just one among many and it would be in good company!

That list my friend would be both long and dishonourable.

Just a thought, I wonder if Lofty Mathews name is one?

Speaking of Lofty Mathews, I ran into Paul 'Dog' Fox at the Can'tberra Reunion in April.

He was just as legless as when I last saw him 30 years ago!!!!

It's good to see Foxy has a hobby to keep on the streets.
Old Poobar would be proud of him.

Subject: Sec: Unclas RE: New Publication on the RAN in Vietnam

Dear Peter, The Sea Power Centre - Australia is in the process of putting together a pictorial publication on the RAN in Vietnam. We are on the lookout for photographs that have not been published before (preferably colour) and would like to ask members of the Brisbane Association to assist by looking through their personal slide and photo collections. Happy to accept electronic copies (at least 300dpi) or originals and all donations will be suitably acknowledged.

Very many thanks in advance, as I know that those who served will do their best to ensure the Steel Cat is well represented.

Nice to see that the government has finally come to the party in supplying a grant to a group of veterans to find and recover two of the MIA's in Vietnam. (You would have thought that would be a given)

Whilst it is known that the two soldiers were killed during one of the firefights in Phuoc Tuy province, their bodies were never recovered.

The vets themselves have been to Vietnam and located and spoken to members of the opposing side. The VC/NVA have admitted that they buried the two Aussies, and have identified the area but not the exact spot.

The grant is to travel and use ground-penetrating radar to locate their remains, then bring them home.

I wish them success.

CAN YOU HELP... :?:

VUNG TAU Ferry; do you have any photos????

The following item is from the latest Navy News

Quote;

Mr Geoff Halsey is seeking photos in connection with a history he is
writing of the 8th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment in
Vietnam.
He asks for shots that may be in possession of ex Navy Personnel
showing 8RAR personnel going to Vietnam on the "Vung Tau ferry" -
HMAS Sydney taken late November 1969 and returning to Australia
November 1970.
Mr Halsey will acknowledge details of people supplying photos and
other information.
People who can help should contact him at halsey@bigpond.com.au
or 08 82968505.

Unquote.

Please forward. Thank you.
