I see that the prohibitive cost of nuclear would see the cost of $8.9 billion for one power station. Meanwhile, Florence, one of the tunnel boring machines for Snowy Hydro 2 has become stuck (yet again). Currently costed at $12 billion but at least one "expert" has suggested that the final cost would be around $15 billion with a hidden oncost of another $10 billion for the 1,000km of new transmission lines to Sydney and Melbourne.
Snowy 2.0 is simply a very inefficient water battery, no more or less renewable than any other battery. It doesn't produce renewable energy, as does a conventional hydro power station.
Is nuclear the better option? Remove the legislation and let the market decide.
