Hardly made the news here, but the Sail Training Ship Leeuwin was sideswiped by a container ship whilst alongside in Fremantle a few days back. She was completely dismasted, with all three masts destroyed and two crewmen were seriously injured escaping onto the wharf. No reports of hull damage at the moment, but I think she'll be out of action for many, many months. https://youtu.be/JaDbyROX8hw

Whilst substantial rigging damage to STS Leeuwin information (albeit in commercial tomes) suggests that the hull is okay. Noting that the container ship ended up with a hole in the plating and some of the concrete wharf that caused the damage, I would be surprised if there wasn't some form of damage to the hull. Very lucky for the two crew members onboard.

Shame about the STS Leeuwin, I hope that the shipping company pays for the repairs. I have sail on both Leeuwin and Young Endeavor and quaified as watch Leaders on both. always found the Leeuwin the better ship to sail.

Ah.... decisions, decisions... Do I watch the full live telecast on the ABC from 1100 this morning, or do I just watch the highlights on Planet America a 2130 tonight...???
