Yeeeaaaahhhh... WHY NOT...!!!
Following the recent and very successful get-together of our friends at our...
5th Annual RAN Skilled Hands Sydney Rocks Xmas Pub Crawl Smokey
...and as we don't want to wait for a whole year 'til we get together again...
We're hereby ANNOUNCING...
The 2008 RAN-SH Xmas in June Inaugural Balmain Pub Crawl Smokey
Looking at my calendar, I fugure we'll hold it either on Saturday the 21st or
Saturday the 28th of June...
There are a PLETHORA of Pubs in Balmain and the following is NOT even a
complete list, but an Expeditionary Force will be dispatched between
then and now to formulate a game plan...
Here's what I've found in Balmain so far...
(Just check out how many are in Darling St, the BLUE line on the pc above...)
Rob Roy Hotel
25 Adolphus Street, Balmain,
Marquis Of Waterford
50 Darling Street, Balmain,
Durham Hotel
69 Darling Street, Balmain,
Boilermakers Arms Hotel
178 Darling Street, Balmain,
Riverview Hotel
29 Birchgrove Road, Balmain,
The Monkey Bar
255 Darling Street, Balmain,
London Hotel
234 Darling Street, Balmain,
Royal Oak Hotel
37 College Street, Balmain,
Kent Hotel
51 Palmer Street, Balmain,
West End Hotel
74-76 Mullens St, Balmain,
MB Bistro
255 Darling St, Balmain,
Bar Contessa
371B Darling St, Balmain,
Randall Pty Ltd
255 Darling St, Balmain,
Holilol Pty Ltd
292 Darling St, Balmain,
And then if we take in Balmain East, there's also...
Cat & Fiddle Hotel, The Commercial Hotel Dick's Hotel Dry Dock Hotel Exchange Hotel Sir William Wallace Hotel Town Hall Hotel Unity Hall Hotel
I'm sure that with a little bit of research we can whittle that lot down to a
'drinkable' and 'walkable' number of attractive pubs, and pick an appropriate
one to finish off the run at.. KEEP POSTED...!!! In the meantime...
Getting in early... Starters so far include:
Rick 'Hippy Chippy' Pengilly
Well... somebody's gotta be first...!

Yesiree I'm in.
As on old Balmain Boy (born in Balmain District Hospital, lived in The Avenue down in Balmain East and went to Nicholson Street Public School) may I suggest starting at the middle (around the Court House)and travelling DOWN HILL (don't we always) toward the East Balmain wharf and the ferry back to Circular Quay and public transport/more beer at the Rocks.

Excellent (and comprehensive) report there Buck, sounds like you, Mobes and Stew had a good run...
After we put Xmas behind us we'll get together for a re-run, to finely hone the route, etc...
So all things being equal, you'd say that there's as much character in the Balmain Pubs you visited to stand the test as a suitable mid-year alternative to 'The Rocks' then...???

Sounds great Buck, I am salivating already.
June / July would definitely be the time of year to hold it.

Well the secret is out. There are pubs in Balmain although some of closed about 40 or 50 years ago!
I spent part of today reworking the route to pick up the late openers and included another 4 pubs for the second assault. I estimate the total length of the route march will be 4 to 5 clicks and should take about eight to nine hours to complete - are youse up to it?
We also need to factor in that the sun will set about 17 and some of the after clock so the trip back across the harbour (yeah - ya get some sea time but no Hard Lay-ers) will be in darkness (ETD Balmain East 1900) - we may need to start earlier (10:00 first drink) and practice 'man overboard' drills prior to embarkation on the fairy.
Hopefully there will not be disruptions to the trains on the City Circle that weekend and will be spared the walk from the Quay to Central via Chinatown where the asian girls are just as pretty as they were when we were 19.
I will email the route and the stops - accurately plotted and identified - to the Hippy Chippy (you will be sooooo at home in Balmain Warrick) in the next day or so - if you could be so kind as to do your thing and create a map. Mercy Buckups.

Typical Dockyard Walloper...! You been going through my service records again Mobes...???!!!
Even those who've discovered (or already knew,) that 'Rick' is short for 'Warrick' usually spell it the 'correct' way as Warwick, not as my Mother chose to spell it, Warrick...!
Even Skilled Hands at Sea only has me listed with the rest of the 13th MOBI Intake of July '62 as 'Pengilly, W.J.'...
Only the Navy, the Police and the Taxation Department use Warrick...
...and usually only when I'm in the sh*t...!
And of course, I'll be happy to convert your 'mud map' to a GRAPHIC ARTS MASTERPIECE...
Now get your butt into the MYNAI on-line AGM and cast your votes on our Nominees and AGM Agenda Item POLLS...

Rick,
You don't have to be a super sleuth - just observant. I read the front page of this website.
My reference to Balmain being 'sooooo you' was meant to imply that you will feel right at home with the other hippies we encountered last weekend.
I have sent you an email to show how easy it is to find stuff.
