From time to time, some
Members may wish to download and save
a favourite YouTube video,
(requiring specialised software,) but the
exercise of downloading any one of the plethora of
'Free YouTube Downloaders' on the
'Net is fraught with pitfalls and traps for the unwary...
...................................... It's a minefield out there for young players..! What I'm hoping to show you below is how to avoid downloading unwanted
'bloatware',
'toolbars',
'search engines',
'feeds', etc., etc.,
that are the unfortunate
'hidden price' you could pay
(if you're not particularly careful,) when downloading so-called
'free' software...
First tip is to pick a
reliable,
well established 'server', for this exercise I've gone to
CNET.com, which you can find by clicking here:
.............................................. Free YouTube Video Downloader... The first pitfall to avoid is to
ONLY click on the
LEGITIMATE CNET Download button,
(RED ARROW) avoiding
all the other
'Download' buttons which are specifically designed to fool you into downloading something entirely
different to what you want...!
On the next screen,
ignore all else but the
'Save/ Save As' button at the bottom of the screen...
Click on
'Save As', and select
'Downloads'...Again, ignoring all of the other distractions, once the download is complete, click on
'Open Folder'...Find the
Downloader 'exe' File and click on it...
When you click on it,
TWO windows will open, again,
IGNORE and close the distracting
'DOWNLOADS' window
and only click on the
'Next Step' button in the other window...
The next thing you'll notice is that the
'legitimate' window indicates that there are
'7 steps to go'... It's CRAP..! BE WARNED,
6 of them are inviting you to download
'add-ons' and
'bloatware' that you
MOST DEFINITELY
DON'T WANT...! (Read the fine print on the left..!) CLICK ON 'DECLINE'... (Close the other window if it pops up...)Repeat that exercise as many times as you need to
(5 or 6) until you get to the window below, click on
'Install Now'...Now you're on safer ground, just follow the prompts and install the software...
Click as prompted...
Click as prompted...
Click as prompted...
Click as prompted...
Click as prompted... If another window pops up, close it, it's more 'bloatware bumpf'...! Click
'Finish'...Finally, you'll find a shortcut to your YouTube Downloader...
P.S. I've tested the downloader on the video that
Bobcat wanted to download from
YouTube...
and it works...! P.P.S. Hope my
'Women in Red' Screensavers didn't distract you too much...!
