Whilst I appreciate that most (but not all,) of our Members are directly affected by Government policy and decisions on the indexing of Military Superannuation, the reality is that both are inextricably linked. If we believe that getting rid of the current Government will bring about the changes we all want to see, then expressing that view has a place in this topic.
If we take the time to think outside the square (of our ex-Military focus,) then Pete’s comments are very valid; not all of the voters in the next election are ex-Military, and the variety of issues in any election are what gets a Party elected. If you expect that the Gillard Government will be defeated in September, solely by the lobbying of a whole lot of unhappy ex-Military Superannuants, you’ll be sadly disappointed.
Like most of our Members, I too want to see a change of Government in September, but unlike most of our Members, I am not personally affected by any changes in Military Superannuation, (having commuted my DFRB on completion of my 12 years of service,) and whilst I sympathise and I’m happy to post any information on the subject that comes my way, it’s not for my benefit, but yours.
Pete is directly affected by any decisions on Military Superannuation and is an active advocate on many broader Veteran issues; he’s not naive enough to believe that the issue of Military Superannuation will be enough in itself to ensure a change of Government, pointing that out in his inimitable manner which we’re all used to.
I personally find nothing out of line in Pete’s post, in reminding Members not to take the Gillard Government’s defeat as ‘fait accompli’... I do, however find Robert’s post unnecessarily aggressive and provocative towards Pete and was tempted to censure it.
As far as ‘moderating’ the posts in any topic, there are three Administrators/ Moderators on RAN Skilled Hands, with each of us able to delete/ amend/ modify posts of our Members, up to and including the restriction of access, even temporary, or permanent banning of unruly Members, yet unlike ‘The Gun Plot’, the latter is something we’ve found the need to exercise only a couple of times in 10 years of administering our website.
And not to put too fine a point on it, as far as staying ‘on topic’ I’d invite Robert to check these posts under ‘Who's into 4WD'ing?’ or under ‘The inmates still run the asylum!!’ for relevance to the topic...
We provide a friendly, somewhat ‘laid back’ website for the enjoyment of all our Members, and generally speaking, we’ve not found the need to remind Members that personal attacks on other Members for their views won’t be accepted, we’re all grown up, think before you post... and take full advantage of the ‘EDIT’ button to review your posts before overreacting to the posts of others...

I share your sentiments, Pete, now let's get back to our usual light-hearted banter which characterises the popularity of our RAN Skilled Hands forum website...

Yeah Pete, it's starting to dim a bit now though. I have to turn the light on when I want to read a book. Also feel it's a bit late to audition for the next Star Wars movie as the light sabre doesn't light up like it used to.

Thanks for that, and Peter, you just rubbed a raw nerve, not your fault. My fault is I speak my mind , too often sometimes. It's ok, big shipwright fellow, I can take a serve, I've been married for 38 years Used to it No offence meant, just got carried away. But I've never really been tied to the mainstream
