Rick and Ned, I am going to confirm this but Neil Trapp has put on his FB page that Barry Cullen has passed away from cancer and his funeral is today, in Brisbane.

Rick and Ned, it is with great relief that I must inform you that my investigation into the report of our Barry Cullen's demise, was found to be premature and our Barry is alive and well. Needless to say, it is still sad that a Barry John Cullen, also ex RAN, has passed away and his family and friends will be grieving, so to them I pass on my deepest condolences.

Thanks for the update Geordie, it's a relief it's not our Barry R. Cullen, and our condolences to the family of the 'other' ex-sailor Barry J. Cullen... An e-mail just received from Bill Krause reads as follows: Dear Bill and Allen, I would appreciate if you could both let the members of your respective networks know that Veteran and Ex-Sailor R58861 Barry John Cullen died from cancer last Monday and that his funeral service will be held tomorrow (Monday 20 January 2014) as follows: Place: The Hemmant Chapel, corner of Hemmant and Tingalpa Rd, Hemmant, commencing at 2 p. m. Time: 2pm To let members know, Barry Cullen served in the RAN from 6 April 1962 – 5 Apr 1971 with various service aboard HMAS Cerberus, Watson, Penguin, Albatross, Nirimba and HMAS Sydney .... including operational service on the Sydney from 27/05/1965 and 20/10/1965). Warm regards Peter Thornton 02 6169 6873 0406 1944 69 “All for One .. and ... One for All”

Thanks Gordie, I saw the announcement and had some concerns initially but then I noticed his Official Number and it was a long way from our Barry Cullen.
