No, no, no, you got it wrong CJ, Pete was the Air controller telling the warthog and pilot where to go.

Hard to judge out at sea.
But they did get your attention when they screamed in from nowhere skimming the waves, and tossed on the afterburners half way down the ship's side.

Watched a program on the Discovery Channel about the Aircraft of the Vietnam Years, the old UH was and is still a great chopper.
From this program I found out that alot of the current designed aircraft had their birth back in the mid 50's and early 60's.
Trust the good old Ozzies to to keep the old ones going. F111 and Black Hawks etc.
We run the DDG's til we couldn't get spares.
We were able to keep MELBOURNE running for so long and obviously the Aggies and Indians learnt from us, as they kept their Carriers going for as long.
I think in every engineering sailors soul, there is a little bush and/or backyard mechanic tinkering away.
We all have this desire to need to bring life to a rusty hulk of a car or motorcycle to its former glory. I have never quite figured out why.
I know when I was on the Old TINA I hated the ship. Dirty cramped and "Oh so slow". Having been to Brisbane and had a look at the old girl I now have a small amount of pride knowing my very small part kept her at sea.
I have spoken to Older Sailors from the Scrap Iron Fleet, and they say the same thing. It was that Backyard or Bush Mechanic that kept those old ship running.
I suppose in the next 40 years the sailors of today will be saying the same things.
Just letting my memories run. Forgive as the sun hasn't crossed the Yardarm.
Happy Trafalgar Day. Kiss me Hardies, all round
Yo Ho and bottle of rum....... Wrong time wrong ship.

Wayne, I doubt you can control aircraft with commands like:
'AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH'
and
'Where is it, where is it? I'm too young to dieeeeeeee!!!!'
and
'Make the bad man go away!'
and
'I think I have to go to my mess now, and change.'
He was, however, very funny on the booze.
Cheers
CJ

So true, Tafmo, so true!
I always wondered why he kept a genuine pigskin chamois in his locker. Looks like it might have been a memento...........
Cheers

The Huey was a great chopper. I did a lot of flights in them for "Phot Runs". Sit on the floor with your feet on the skids and held inside by a belt around the waist anchored to the floor. Always got great shots.
Did you know they had an ashtray in the centre of the consol, so the pilots could smoke ! ! ! similar to a car, just slide it out.
Cheers Dino.

So what so special about the 'cages in Bombay'. All I recall was cheap chinese women, inverted taps, dead bodies and people using the gutter as their morning toilet. .
