.......................DDG-41 'The Steel Cat' Ship's band performing RAS break-away song 'Proud Mary'
Published on Aug 31, 2012 The band on HMAS Brisbane DDG 41, 1994 somewhere in the Philippine Sea. Band at sea, why not? Think I caught up with one of the band at some dos hole bar that was the norm in those days, promised them a copy of the "concert" I filmed from the tanker. Well guys, it's 18 years late, but better late than never. If any band members see this and want a DVD, just draft a signal to me.

Underwater prop change - A first for a DDG from Dennis Comeford - HMAS Brisbane DDG41(Facebook)
When this happened and in true spirit of Jack Tar rumors were quick to circulate throughout the ship about diverting via Guam, Pearl Harbour and even Long Beach, California to have the prop replaced. No one was complaining about an extended deployment with the possibility of ending up in one of these destinations for a couple of weeks prop change. A fair bit of disappointment when we headed south to Aust instead of east.
When I was in Mooloolaba recently, I used to go for a jog along the beachfront, and came across the HMAS Brisbane memorial. Quite impressive in an understated way.
Part of the mast is on display on a bow-shaped concrete base with two information signs about the vessel and another sign showing where she is resting and in which direction etc.
I used to throw a snappy goffa as I sped around the mast on my jogs.

Very attractive in it's simplicity...
Hmmmm... Perhaps we could sent a photo of those little ROUND spotlights, core drilled and embedded in the centre of those tiles, to the gouging rip-off clowns who won the rights to print money with their winning tender for the Martin Place Memorial...
