Well spotted Rick....but of course it was pretty easy...just look for the most handsome, suave and sophisticated fella there... :yess:

I'd say there are a number of other familiar faces throughout the video....there's a number of old farts around the place...not including moi of course as a relatively young buck... :grin:

Makes me wish I was young enough to be part of it. How exciting it must be for those young sailors posted as part of the commissioning crew.

Being part of the project must be a buzz too Tafmo.

Unfortunately Mick, because of the triple layer of politics and the commercial imperatives etc that you get with an Alliance....compounded by the absolute dickheads who have been in charge of various areas at times (not all but far too many...and of course many of them have stayed around to make life a misery for everyone) I have to say that this is the worst project I've ever had the misfortune to work on. :tear:

It's a soul-destroying, malignant environment which totally crushes you. :banghead:

The fact that the Project has 'recovered' and that things are going ahead well is testament to the hard work of many talented and skilled people determined to make it work regardless of the politics and the environment, and a number of senior position changes. Hopefully we'll never again have an Alliance arrangement in Defence.... #-o

My sympathises Tafmo, I understand completely. I have been there as well but perhaps on a lesser scale.

Sadly, and a little closer to home, it's also the anniversary of the tragic fire aboard HMAS Westralia... :omg1:

On 5th of May 1998, a flexible fuel hose in the Westralia's engine room burst. The spraying fuel ignited when it came into contact with
hot machinery, and the first-response extinguishers were unable to cope with the fire's intensity.

It took two hours for the fire to be extinguished, and four sailors died from carbon monoxide poisoning. #-o

Midshipman Megan Pelly, Petty Officer Shaun Smith, Leading Seaman Bradley Meek and Able Seaman Phillip Carroll all lost their lives.

Dear all

I have been to Maroochydore and talked entertainment rep and book their hall for 8-9 may 2018.

Tried for 5th of May, which would have been 52 nd anniversary launch HMAS Brisbane, but that is long weekend in Qld, hence a higher rate of hire.

A steering crew have been formed to get the ball rolling, John McMillan, Trevor George, Al Humphreys and myself.

At the moment I cannot even give you a ROM. It depends on the numbers of attendees and generosity of board of directors to whom I have to write and ask for waiver of hiring fees.

Therefore I have to give you a deadline of 2359 on 30 June 2017

I know that you all can recognise me and John Mac but what if we cannot recognise you ?

Hence name of all participants to Con and John so we can issue with name tag at Meet and Greet.

Bank account will be opened shortly with Trevor, Ally and Con as signatories, as ANY TWO sign.

As at some stage RSL will ask us for deposit on the venue. At the moment ,we see it as 1800-2300 8th may 2018 as Meet and Greet with finger food and CASH TILL.

1800-2300 on 9th 2018 sit down dinner and once again Cash TILL. . ALSO AGM WILL BE HELD BEFORE DINNER, ALL POSITIONS DECLARED OPEN AND ANY N0MINATION TOGETHER SECONDER TO THE CONTACTS BELOW.

1200-170 on 10th 2018 BBQ or Picnic at HMAS Brisbane Memorial at Alexandra Head, details to be discussed with City Council.
