Sadly I received a message on Saturday from his daughter Jenny to say Allan had passed away at St Basil’s nursing home in Miranda. Allan first joined the RAN in 1946 for a period of 2 years. He again joined as a Direct Entry ERA after completing his apprentaship in 1952. He served on many ships from AUSTRALIA in 1952 to MELBOURNE in 1976. I first met and served with him when we were both posted to stand by, commission and deploy to Vietnam on HOBART in 1965-67. I again served with Allan on MELBOURNE in 1975/6. He was promoted to WO at the time when the rank of Warrant Officer was reintroduced back into the RAN in the late ‘70s. Allan was also a Voyager survivor and received a Navy Board Commendation for his actions at the time. Allan was awarded with a BEM particularly for his service on HOBART in Vietnam. He was also awarded an OAM after leaving the Navy for his service in the community, particularly with the North Cronulla Surf Club. His wife Shirley was also awarded with an OAM for her similar dedication to our community. He and Shirley had a surf boat named after them as an honour. I am proud to have had the pleasure to have known, served and lived in the same area as Allan for more than 52 years. RIP my friend.
A funeral service for Allan will be held at Woronora Cemetary, Sutherland at 1100 on Monday 26th of March 2018.

Tom, I never had the pleasure of meeting Allan or yourself, but I certainly know what it's like to lose a mate.
My sympathies to Allan's family on the loss of a good bloke, and to you on your loss.
RIP Allan. Fair winds and a following sea.

Had the pleasure of "working" for Allan (Tiptruck) when doing our FM time from Nirimba when in 5/6th? term. A very patient understanding human. RIP Allan
