Subject: FW: RIP - JOHN FORTE

John Ashton kindly made contact with me on advice from Carol that John passed away this morning 02OCT at 0430 SA Time.

I have just made a phone call to Carol and passed condolences on behalf of you “Our Intake of – Jan ‘58”.

With her permission I forward this preliminary advice and ask that you too can extend the distribution if addresses are incorrect.

John had been in hospital for over two weeks.

In visiting him last night he asked Carol to make contact with Sam.

Further advice will be given in due course.

Regards
BUTTZA

Webmaster's Footnote: John had graduated 6 months before I joined and our paths never crossed out in the Fleet, so consequently,
we never met, but nevertheless it's always sad to hear of the loss of another of our pioneering fellow MOBIs... RIP, John... H.C. [-o<

I to, have never crossed paths with John during my career, but I'm still sad to hear of another loss of a fellow MOBI.

RIP John :salute1:

Sad to say I also never served with John and sadly another who has completed his final cruise and crossed the bar for the last time. RIP John, fair winds and following seas.

For those who may be able to attend, John Forte funeral arrangements are detailed below.

TO ALL

I have received the following message from Carol Forte

Quote:

“ I've heard from several MOBI friends and been very touched by their expressions of care and love for John and me.

Johns funeral will be Wednesday the 10th Oct at the Centennial Park Florey Chapel, Pasadena (S.A.) at 11.30am. “

Unquote:

All being well Jan and I will travel over to Adelaide and be present to represent those who are unable to attend.

Carol has requested that she would like me to speak at Johns Funeral about “OUR “ times together as MOBI comrades.

There will not be an official RSL involvement however with the agreement of Carol and as a mark of respect I will be wearing medals.

To do this I will need your input and support.

Could you please assist with any note-able info that I can take forward on the day.

Regards
BUTTZA

I think that I have said this before when a mobi passes on we who are left are not only lesser in numbers but the world is poorer for his passing . I can see the time when " like the various returned servicemen " our numbers will dwindle until we are but a memory but our " can do " attitude will be talked about in messdecks forever.
