As some of you may remember back quite a few Rocks Runs ago, I had encountered a hassle from The Lord Nelson over a newly introduced booking reservation scheme requiring my
credit card details, and a deposit, along with the intention of charging for 'no-shows' on a fixed number reservation... :angry9:

I complained and managed to work around it by demanding :swear1:

to speak
to the Manager, and explaining that we'd been making 'normal' bookings for years... :snap:

...which he accepted and took our booking... :yess:

Upon arrival for that occasion and introducing myself to the Manager, Martin Longhurst, I was greeted with an ouzo 'n' coke :ouzo:

on the house, he then gave me his business card :evil3:

and suggested
that for all future booking, I ring his mobile direct... :mobile:

Since then most of my drinks, :ouzo:

and on a few occasions, even my lunch :drink eat:

was free...!!! $\:D/$ The system was working perfectly... :yess:

...until now... #-o

Two weeks ago, I rang Martin's mobile, :phone:

and when it eventually went to his message-bank, :mobile:

I left full details for our booking... Since then, I've been waiting for his return call to
confirm the booking... :evil3:

When I hadn't heard back, I decided to ring The Lord Nelson :phone:

just to make sure he was still working there, (as he mentioned he was thinking of retiring a few years back,)
...only to discover that Martin had died of cancer just two weeks ago...!!! :confused:

Thankfully, the lass I spoke to was very helpful and accepted our booking, since confirmed it by e-mail...

Shep and Polly, Tafmo, and Topjars, both flying in from Adelaide...

FYI, Col, if the event was held to Saturday 4th November, we would have missed out on the company of yourself and Charlie Staples, two of our stalwarts, hence the change (after consulting
parties various,) to Tuesday 7th... Only after committing to the change, I discovered that Dave Warren had a long-standing annual commitment for each Melbourne Cup day, and that we would
also miss out on the surprise appearance of Mike Moore, timing his caravanning/ family get-together to coincide with our event, along with Mark Mobley... #-o

So, whilst I agree entirely with everything you've said about locking in a fixed annual recurrence, occasionally, the hard decisions have had to be made, so what's done is done, my sincere apologies
to Dave and Pony, but I won't be making any more changes... [-(

I also assume that after moving it to Tuesday to suit you (?) and Charlie, you'll both be joining us as previously committed...? :-k
